I've been eating at this place for years and finally got the tour of their fig trees by the owners son. The owner is currently in Italy. They have about a dozen which supposedly he brought over with him previously from Italy. I only took a couple pics and will go back when the owner returns. Interesting leaf on one of them, any guesses as to ID? It is a late producer that he keeps in a hoop house which is very hot.

The leaves in the first photo look similar to my Hardy Chicago from Raintree and also to my unknown from Clifton, New Jersey.

I agree with Joe, judging by the leaf shape, they are very similar to Hardy Chicago.

Rafed, you're a cuttingaholic. We all have this addiction over here.

Rafed,

I was offered cuttings, but would prefer to wait til the owner is home rather than get any from his son. We spoke before and he knows of my interest in figs and indicated he will share. I am also hoping he can enlighten me as to the origins of his trees. I don't think any of his trees are Hardy Chicago as he has them growing inside a very hot hoop house presumambly to push them as they are his late figs. I mean they were in hot conditions!! He also had a few outside in pots, one of which had some fat brebas on it nearly ready for picking. He also is growing grapes from the old country and a nice olive tree.

Barry,

I think you are right. Waiting will be the right thing to do. If the father offered to give you then it will come from the heart if he does it.

Good call.
