Hopefully that Papa John fig is better than the pizza by the same name!

Not a fan of the pizza either, but I'm told this is a good one. I'll let you know in a day or so. Martin, you really should taste these, all of them

I'm impatiently awaiting the results of your Papa John. I got one or two cuttings of this (one, I think?) last year and it rooted readily, it's about 3' tall now... anxious to see the fruit after seeing pics on Bass' TOJ site.

Jason, I covered it with tinfoil as I have been losing a lot to the critters. I think it will be ready to pick tomorrow as will my Kathleen's Black, so I am pumped!

I lost the first one to ants, I picked it and they came rushing out of the fig, therewere so many ants, I don't think even Pete would consider eating that one, Tortoise food. This is the second one, didn't see any ants on it, but when I cut it 2 started crawling around the plate. I guess I got it just in time. Taste was good sweet and figgy

Barry im not going to say that you wait all season long for ripe figs only to have ants mess them up because you forgot to apply the tanglefoot. Nope i wont say that . ; ) Really though sorry to hear about your ant invasion , they did that to me once in past and since then no more.

Martin I do know better and should have gotten to the store, but I have been very pre occupied with 2 newly adopted kittens. Yes 2. I found one in my yard then 2 weeks later my daughter found another up by my ex's place. The ex, in her heartless way, refuses to allow animals into the house, you know the rest of the story. That coupled with my limited time to run errands what with dialysis 3 days a week and top that off with a trip to Bisirris on a non treatment day this week and here we are. I should be able to get some tomorrow. Lesson learned, next year, buy it before it's needed.

Oh no! first dark figs only, now dogs only! Well I hope you would at least take them to a shelter.
