I have filled the trade agreements I made with the cuttings and have some extras.

The mother tree is on Long Island NY, it is a small purple fig  has been in the same location for over 80 years.  It has not been covered for the winter in 20 years and it had died back once.

If anyone would like some cuttings please pm me.  The cuttings will be 5 per pack, assorted sizes - length, diameter and # of nodes (at least 2).  Terminal cuttings are shorter but have more nodes, mid branch are longer but have less nodes.  $5.00 to cover shipping and materials. Check or money order, I do not have a paypal account.

Hi JoAnn,

How small is this purple fig and how does it taste?  Is the eye open, or closed and how does it do in the rain?

It's got some pretty leaves on it.

Thanks,

noss

Hi Noss, those are great questions.  From what I remember they are smaller then the LSU Purple I have, the photo with the ruler.  I never heard of figs splitting before I joined the forum, and for the taste - I grew up with this fig and they taste figgy, Mom said they taste different then the LSU Purple.  I haven't had figs from this tree in over 10 years so I can't really answer with more detail.

I hope this helps.

Looks like your tree is doing real well in partial shade.  That is important, as some of us are running out of spots with full sun.

Mine are in the rooting bin as we speak.

Thank You JoAnn

Hey Tami, you could always put a fiver in an evnvelope too.  I know, not the best idea but I've done it a few times and the cash gets where its going.  At $5, I'm too lazy to write a check but will take the chance on $5 not getting stolen from the mail.  Just a thought.

Steve you crack me up. I think I should put in $6, leave the flap open with a note to the mailman to take out the money for a stamp then seal it please. Funniest part is...down here it really might work. LMAO

Tami - as strange as it sounds, I haven't needed to have a paypal acct. And stranger yet......I don't have a debit card!  I'm a bit old school with this stuff, I like my checkbook, the act of writing out is good for me.

Everyone else, I think I responded to everyone who pm'd me for cuttings, (the dangers of doing this stuff at this hour lol).  Thank you for the warm response to the offer, I did a rough count and think they are all accounted for - there are a few for me too!

Just a reminder, there is a range of sizes from thinner then a pencil to a bit larger then a sharpie, and a minimum of 2 nodes - those are the thicker cuttings with larger space between nodes.  I will mix them up as evenly as possible, and try to accommodate the special requests.

Wow Pete!!  That's great - I'll be hitting the gardening and figging this weekend!  And the yard needs to be sprayed for bugs, ants, etc., weed killer fertilizer..........  and of course I need to make some puppy play time. ;)

Thanks JoAnn I received mine today and they looked great in spite of the fact the post office had torn a large hole in the envelope.  Oh well at least they had stuck them in a plastic envelope with a letter of apology.   I am looking forward to them.

The cuttings I received were quite nice. I potted one of them whole and the other four were of such a size that I cut them in half to make a total of 9 cuttings. Thanks again for a very generous gesture.

Your welcome!!  I am grateful to my Mom and Brother for taking the time to box and send the cuttings to me so I would have something to offer.

I am also so grateful to the members who trusted I would honor the trade agreements AFTER they so generously sent their cuttings to me 3-4 months ago!!

Bumping this thread to see what everyone thinks.  I've gotten fruit and looking at the leaves, fruit ripening time, fruit appearance and taste it seems to me to be identical to my potted Hardy Chicagos.
