Here is how to move a Tex Whopper Tree Texas Style! I know a couple F4F members a couple months ago said "everything is bigger in Tx." Now that they mention it! Here is a link....it is interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=BFTj0hM3DHM

KInda puts some of our "big projects" into perspective, doesn't it? Thanks, Cecil.

The San Diego Zoo moved a large tropical ficus in a similar way. The boxed it up, built a railroad track under it, and rolled it down to its new home, about 400 feet away, Reportedly cost $250,000 to move it. They had misters in the canopy for more than a year to help balance out the water loss due to root loss.

Cecil, What is a companion oak? It looks like a Live Oak and is a beautiful tree. Thanks for showing us the video of the moving of this majestic tree. The Cape Hatteras Light House in North Carolina was moved away from the shore erosion if you can picture that. These are amazing moves and took a lot of work and love. Viv

Hi Viv, I can't tell you about what a companion oak is? Never heard of one until this video....I always called them plantation oaks!

A Compton Oak is a naturally occurring hybrid between a Live Oak and a Lyre Leaf or Overcup Oak. I remember reading that in some places they wait until winter then saw the trees out of frozen ground and then on railroad tracks like the San Diego Zoo tree. I hope we always love trees enough to do silly things like this. Or move the road...

Now that is one BIG move! I particularly liked how the two front beasts 'ballet-crawled'; using both their front claws and rear wheels to drag that heavy load.
