As I have already written about, I lost all my cuttings I started indoors over the winter. But I had a few leftovers so I started them outdoors the end of April in pots. About 75% of these are growing. Well, I just noticed that my VdB was poking roots out the bottom so I pulled it out and look at this:

So I started looking at others which I had started this way, here is my Negronne:

Needless to say I am ecstatic! I can't say for sure what has given me such nice root growth in 3 months but I am thinking it might be this stuff:

I ran out after uppotting the VdB and Negronne, so I am ordering more before uppotting the rest of them. It might be all in my head but I think this stuff is close to root magic!

Really nice!  If you had them in air pruning pots, you wouldn't have the circling.  Just a gazillion more roots!  That stuff seems to work magic!

I buy it on amazon.com. It is the cheapest I can find, about $26 with shipping, but it looks like it is well worth it

Do you mix that with water or just shake some on top and then water it? I recently purchased some micorrhiza but haven't used it yet. Mine is like a brown powder but I can't figure out whether to just add it to regularly watering or not. Thanks!

There are different kinds, some is water soluble, some is not. The one in the picture is not. I sprinkle it into the new potting soil as I place the rootball in. It needs to be in the root zone to work

Ok thanks! I think the one I have is water soluble. I'm going to mix it this week and try it out for sure!

Suzi, do you use air prune pots for temporary planting or just for permanate stuff? I plan to keep these in pots only until next spring when they go in the ground. But if they are worth it, I might make some 5 gal air prune pots to keep these in until then. Anyone overwinter in air prune pots?
