I finally have the new Availability List posted. Most plants will be ready for shipping in the fall. Most are to tender for the summer heat. We are reserving plants for shipment then.

Jon, may we pick them up instead of waiting until the fall? I'll be in SD mid August and would love to stop by. Thanks,

Jon, You got me so excited I lost my mind! Please forgive the crazed e-mails. I'm not even sure I did it right but I'm still learning the protocol. Last time I got something from you was months ago and I have trouble remembering what happened this morning.

Jed,

Violette SM,
The SM are the initials of the source, Name and last name. Jon may have the same cultivar from several sources so he documents them accordingly.

Hope this helps.

Violette originated at Paradise Nursery: aka Violette de Bordeaux.

Thanks for clarifying Pitangadiego.

I only want easy and prolific fig trees I can grow in pots.

Is Brown Turkey really a staple fig tree like Black Mission?

Is this the Brown Turkey:

Maryland Berry / Br Turkey MD

I compared the list to the descriptions and came up with is list as the easiest to grow:

Atreano

Maryland Berry

Old Brooklyn Italian

Osborne's Prolific

Vista Black Mission

Do those seem easy for a beginner?

Come to think of it.
Paradise Nursery + SM = the initials of the owner.

Jon threw a curveball. Nice try Jon.

Jed,
I would start with the Vista BM. Since this fig is so common in Cali. I just don't know how far north it thrives.
Others will weigh in or just start another thread with the subject title. There are a few members in your area that will be happy to guide you in the right direction.

Good luck

Jed,

Brown Turkey is about the only fig I do not eat.

Brown Turkey MD was a cutting I received that was supposed to be a Brown Turkey. It clearly is NOT. The "MD" distinguished it from other Brown Turkey variants. When it was clear that it was something else, and that it was quite good, it needed a new name, hence the name Maryland Berry.

I'm trying to send an email but none of the links on the website work. They all seem to be broken. Can I send my information thru the forum? TIA

Sophie, who are you trying to email?  If you want to send it to Jon then click on his user name (Pitangadiego) and then "email user".  It works for me.

Thanks for the reply!

I have been trying to email the official website to purchase a few plants. I get that I can message Jon thru the forum, but wasn't sure he would want to take company orders via the forum so thought I would ask first. I did manage to send an email to the company even though the website links are broken.

Chris, I have been wondering that as well.  ;-))

Many people e-mailed after the availability list was posted several weeks ago. I set aside many of those plants, but there has not yet been time to return those e-mails. They are being held for fall shipping. I am also still sorting the newer plants, and matching them up with people's want lists.

If you are looking for something specific, e-mail me, and I will add you to the list that I am working through. When the dust settles in a month or so, I will have a better idea what is still here.

It's a good problem to have.

Also, I am taking reservations for Dave Wilson trees which arrive next January. These are easily shipped while they are still dormant and are roughly equivalent to a 5 gallon tree in a smaller pot.

Sophie, it's more reliable to do what I said above.  Don't use PM, Jon doesn't take them.  Just click on "send email".  That's the best way to get a message to Jon and he doesn't mind.  I promise.  If he gets mad at you you can blame it on me and he'll inject my figs with extra FMV but you'll be blameless.   :)

I was wondering the same thing as Sophie.  I don't use outlook on my computer so I can't just click on the "email" link.  I have to have an address to send it to from yahoo, which is the email service I use.  When I first joined, I got an email from Jon at Encanto Farms so that is the email I used to send my wish list.  I hope he got.  =)

Jules, just do as I recommended for Sophie in post #31.  The email link brings up a web form so you don't need a local email client.  Jon gets those emails and is compelled by forces beyond his comprehension to do whatever you ask.

Sophie,

The information in post 31 does work from the forum.

I asked Jon for 23 or so types. Yes, I have fig fever bad.

I will soon need to move out to the country to contain all my trees :)
