Gino's Black. Received cuttings from Herman2 (eBay) in March 2010. It put out good figs last season but I traveled quite and the FPP was not in full effect. Thus the birds highly recommended it.

This one was harvested on yesterday (F 8/2/13). It needed another day or two for perfection. How did it taste? I dunno. There was no hope. I should have waited because it had no chance to be good when it was tasted after we had sampled well ripened VdB, Pananas Purple, Hardy Chicago, Late Black, and Petite Negri.

The Gino's are now being protected and everything being equal, I will be better able to assess the next few...Heaven and Earth willing.

JD, I got to sample a Gino's, from Herman this summer. They were fully ripe figs and their taste was outstanding. They ripened to an almost black color. I forgot to turn off the water to this tree one night and flooded the tree. The next day it poured down raining but the fig did not show any splitting and did not sour, sure seems like an excellent fig. I am really proud to have this fig.

Greg,
Once the figs begin to ripen, rain regular rain is a PITA.

Pete,
It was better but it seems to be a middle of the pack fig. It would likely miss the cut because it produces just few figs and ripens them so slowly here potted in my backyard.

James,
Good point. I agree. I have not yet encountered a split or soured Gino's Black.

Pattee,
Thanks again.

JD, I started picking some from my tree yesterday.  The figs kinda remind me of Piedmont, very sweet tangy when dead ripe.  Gino Black is one of those figs that will keep on producing up till late Fall for my area.  Love those pics JD!

Thanks Francisco. More posts on the way.

Greg,
The first several weeks of the season here was Noah-esque rain which led to souring, fruit flies, and spiders. I was not happy but the returns have been very good thus far. Heaven and Earth willing, you will have better fortunes.

Thank you Meghan.

Dennis,
Piedmont? The breadth and depth of your collection never ceases to amaze me. Thanks.

Vince,
They were good. Thus far, it has been a season of seasons for figs here in 8B.
