Baskinta Brown (labeled Unknown Lebanese Brown). Two logs from Vern C in November 2011. Thanks Vern. Now more than eight feet tall, grounded, unpruned, and getting only about 5 hours max of sunlight daily. I was shocked to find these two figs because the birds missed them. They were figgy but not juicy nor memorably sweet. As you can see, they crack nicely. In the hopes of a more productive life, I will prune it as well as the tree causing the shade. Highly rated [No]. Taste [Good because it was not bland tasting and watery like some golden looking figs can get; yes you Celeste]. Productive [Not sure]. Keep [For now]. Update 20130810. Vern confirmed that there are only two varieties, Baskinta Brown and Baskinta Purple.

Thanks green fig, susieqz, Pattee, and indestructible87. 71GTO, I do not know. If Baskinta Brown = Unknown Lebanese Brown, then of course. I have posted the name of the fig as it was given to me. If you know more, please let me know because I simply do not know.

I think it would be worth more effort just based on looks and hope for better taste with more sunshine.

Vern, had found two unknown Lebanese figs from the town baskinta. One was purple one was brown. The name that was used then was baskinta brown and baskinta purple. Unless, it's a different Vern or just a different fig...

Can it be Red lebanese?

JD, it looks a whole lot like a Celeste, but this one is darker. I believe Vern named it Baskinta brown s 71GTO mentioned.
The Lebanese red is larger.

I too, have this one from Vern with both names. It is an improved Celeste, IMO. Keeper, for now especially in the fig hedge.

Thanks to 71GTO for making me follow up with Vern and for the accurate information. Thanks to Vern for the quick reply. Here is what Vern had to say which is the same as 71GTO in post #5:

Quote:
There are only two Baskinta figs brown and purple. They came from Baskinta a town in Lebanon. I thought I labeled them all Baskinta Brown and Baskinta Purple when I sent them out for trades or postage. There were a lot of people that ended up with these cuttings.
