Chuck what's the reasoning for cutting leaves, I though leaves produce sugar

~well i have read a lot about leaves slow down ripening time ?? but then i read one that said not true ?? i had a unknown that was growing like crazy voles ate it last winter so it had to come all the way back from the ground. it is over 6 feet tall now full of branches and nice leaves.but no figs at all,so i decided to pinch buds ,after that i got 35 figs really quick that came on,so i was afraid time is running out here for ripening,so i read an article ,or saw a post somewhere where this guy showed how he cut the leaves off and left about an inch and a half stem on for each leaf cut,so i decided to try it figuring what do i have to loose,so i went on and did my 10 container trees too. to try to get the figs before winter ,although i can put those in the green house if need be. i am experimenting ,so i really don't encourage other to do what i do,m until i get my decision on my results ,but so far it seems to make a diff,~

Don't know about the leaves, but we've had great success with a dab of olive oil in the ostiole.

What's your fertilizer schedule like and how old are these plants? My container plants are not fruiting anything like this lol

I remember reading a blog from Bass about dabbing olive oil on a fig to hastening maturation / ripening. He said that you had to brush the fig with the oil when it was 3+ weeks away from normal ripening and that the oil would speed things up markedly. I don't remember that he specifically directed that the oil had to be dabbed on the ostiole versus a more generalized light dappling but I will re-read the blog. Again, would be keen on understanding the science of the process if this works...

~i use fish emulsion early season,i mix three tbs per gallon of water ,then in about  4 weeks i will give them fruit tree spikes or sticK a broom stick in two sides against inside edge of bucket about 6-8" DEEP AND FILL WITH 10-10-10 FERTILIZER,AND THEN IN A MONTH OR SO GIVE THEM A SHOT OF GARDEN MIRICLE GROW 1 TBS PER GAL. WATER ,THIS IS MY PLAN THEY DO LIKE IT MUCH~BROWN TURKEY YOUNGEST HERE 7 MONTHS OLD, STARTED FROM A CUTTING SENT TO ME FROM FLORIDA I ROOTED IT  IN JAN 2016. IT HAS 15 FIGS ALREADY AND SOME RIPENING NOW,,THE OTHERS RANGE FROM 1  TO  2.5 YEARS OLD~

Tony; we were a bit disappointed last season when it started getting cold and the figs didn't look like they were going to make it, again. So we tried a drop in the ostiole and it worked, within a week it was ripe. So we tried lots more and most of them worked too. I vaguely remember someone suggesting it was to do with gas, either stopping oxygen from getting in, or stopping ethylene from getting out, but I'm not sure.
