I'm new to fig growing and this is my first Strawberry Verte. It was a gift from my brother, Dallasfigs_jd_smith. Thanks, James. =) It has several figs on it but this was the only one that was anywhere near being ripe. It was droopy and a little bit wrinkled when I picked it this evening. It was sweet without being TOO sweet, a nice figgy taste with a little seed crunch and it was very moist but not overly juicy. The skin offered a little resistance when biting into it. All in all, it was the 2nd best fig I've had to date, but remember, my experience is limited. Thanks for looking at the pictures.

Mine last year was very good also. This year no fig, do not know why. Always next year.

This is one of the green/light figs that I like. Nice and dense and tastey. It seems productive too. And pretty. Unfortunately something (raccoon, ground squirrel, coyotes?) keeps eating the fruits whole.

Thanks everyone. Yes, Gina, it does seem very productive. Even for a 1st year tree, there are several figs. This one was the only one that seemed to be swelling and ripening though. I hope the rest of them ripen. =)

The LSU Tiger. I have only tasted, Celeste, a few unknowns, Black Jack, LSU Tiger, KRMK dark and now Strawberry Verte. The black jack, celeste, KRMK dark, and a couple of the unknowns, which are likely either celeste or english brown turkey, are pretty good. 2 of the unknowns, I don' really care for; both of those are light figs. The LSU Tiger had a nice sweetness, with a jam like consistency, a little seed crunch, with a bit of a figgy taste. It was very, very good. Unfortunately, it was the only one on the tree. =( I seem to prefer the dark figs and I can hardly wait to get some of the better tasting varieties that hear everyone talking about on here. =)

Jules, Looks & sounds delicious! I just rooted my Strawberry Vertes back in February, and they keep putting out baby figs that I keep picking off so the plant can focus on development. I finally got tired of picking them off and am letting a few develop, just to see how they come out. I figured, in nature, I wouldn't be there to pick them off and the plant definitely wants to put them out! ;) In your list of figs, I noticed you also have an "Ischia" from Home Depot. Just as an FYI, and you may already be aware, but I believe HD sells the Green Ischia, which I understand is the same plant as the Strawberry Verte.

Thanks, Figaro. Yes, I had been told the Home Depot Ischia is probably the Green Ischia. It hasn't put on figs yet so I can't compare to the Strawberry Verte. However, I have a friend with an unknown green fig. I have posted pictures of the figs and the tree/leaves and the general conses seems to be that it is a Green Ischia. If that is the case, I can say without a doubt, the Strawberry Verte and the Green Ischia are NOT the same. But there's the thing....lol, I don't KNOW that the unknown is indeed the the Green Ischia. =-/ Perhaps someone else will share with us the answer. =)

Armando, I'm glad you got to taste one. It seems to be a good producer. Right now my little tree has 5 or 6 more that look like they will all ripen about the same time, which should be in the next several days. I'm thinking it will be the next one for me to put in the ground come spring time.

LOL, that's an understatement. ;-) I just started around April and I have 25 different varieties already with cuttings for 10 more varieties! I'll have to check out the Jarupa. I'm not familiar with it. Good luck with your growing collection. =)

Jules those are great pictures! We'll have to compare that one to some other green / red figs in the future. Though I think you should show a little more Texas pride! A Kentucky quarter for your fig pictures?! ;)

Meghan, LOL!!! I never even noticed. As a matter of fact, with 10 grandkids running around, I'm lucky to have a quarter in my purse at all. =) So far, this is my 2nd green/red fig. I like the Strawberry Verte MUCH more than the other, which is possibly a Green Ischia.

Hey crazy fig lady.. You didn't get the Strawberry Verte from me. I only had one from nana7b and I kept it. It still isn't doing much :( Very pale green and hasn't put on any new growth since I've had it. If you're sure you got it from me, then it's not Strawberry Verte. lol James

Dallasfigs_jd_smith, you are right. I get them confused sometimes. I got the Strawberry Verte from Steve (thanks Steve and sorry for the mix up). I also posted that it has several more figs that are about to ripen. Correction on that too: It does have several figs but that still like quite a while ripening. The one with several that are ripening now is the KRMK Dark. Again, sorry for the confusion....that's why they call me the CRAZY fig lady and not just the fig lady....lmbo.

Thanks for the photo:
I had the good fortune to sample Strawberry Verte at the “Fig Fiesta” a few weeks ago. I liked it, nice fig! Unfortunately, I missed getting one of two that were part of the silent auction…….. urgh. Good news…. before leaving Jon, scrounged me up a little 1 gal. Verde, so I’m happy. Who knows, maybe I’ll get a treat next year.
