Yesterday I ran into a Syrian man who has a large fig tree growing in Allentown, Pa. The area has a good population of immigrants from Middle east, Italians and Greeks. He was not sure where it came from originally.
I was able to sample a few figs on it, although this wasn't the best time for fig ripening but this fig was really good. It is a very productive fig and vigorous.

So 3 free cuttings will go to the person who can give this fig a name. By the end of the week we'll choose 3 names that were given and will vote on one. Person with the best name that fits this fig will be sent the cuttings.

Keep them coming.

The skin is usually very dark, but due to the cool weather it only turned light purple.

I can't think of one name, except for the man that made Allentown famous... But Billy Joel Fig isn't going to cut it, so I'll just vote!  Good luck out there!

Whenever I see "Macool" I think of "McLovin".  In fact, not five minutes before I saw this contest, I thought to my self "if I ever get to name a fig, it will be McLovin"  (no joke).  So I'm going with "McLovin", but I also like "The Tree Of Which Bass Sent James 3 Cuttings".

Or both.  They can be synonyms for each other. ;)

Bellezza dell'Oasi

If you say it in english "Beauty of The oasis"

It reminds me of the oasis with high mountains.
The green points looks like some oasis in the desert in the valleys, and when you get in to the oasis you can feel the delicous taste.

Or it might be  "Terra"

Because it's like the inside of the Earth.

I love all the names it will be hard to decide, but me and another fig friend will narrow it down for the best 3-5 names.

The sad thing is, I called the guy today to see if I can come by to pick more cuttings, however the tree was chopped down yesterday because it was growing at the wrong spot. I promised to root him a cutting to he can plant it at another spot. All the wood was thrown away. The rootball was dug it.  Shame... So here's all the cuttings that I salvaged from the tree.
If the winner wants any of the larger cuttings, it's up to you. They can be picked up or just for pay for postage.

The fruit looks like a variety I received from Dusan called "Palestine".
Its colour, shape and ridge lines are very similar to the fruit on "Palestine".

A name?
Just "Peace".

A melting pot of Europeans.

Euro Delight: Vigorous and produces good quality figs. It is known to be cold hardy, and discovered by (you) in European neighborhood of immigrants from Middle East, Italians, and Greeks.

It is catchy and simple. Matches Bass's discovery

Pruned, dug up and moved? I would ask if I could dig it out of his bin- that sucks! Im not even there, and after reading about it, feels like my stomach has punched. For what it is worth you are very lucky to collect a bundle of cuttings.

Good luck to the few who have been selected. And happy growing to the winner.

If the gentleman will let you post his name we could name it after him.

Otherwise, maybe

Sybaris - a Greek town that looks like Syria

or Sybaritic  (meaning Luxurious - pleasure, luxury, enjoyment)

or Sybarite  One who likes luxurious pleasures or lives in/ comes from Sybaris

If the winner doesn't want the older/thicker wood I have a good success rate rooting that stuff.  And I'll do with it as you request.  It's so sad they destroyed the tree.  I'd go in the dumpster after the wood myself  :)
