as promised.. sometime ago.. here it is. the auction is an open auction only to this post. 

once a member wins, he will have to contact jon to pay for the winning tree. i will ship the tree once i hear from jon. i will eat the shipping. 

will not ship to where prohibited by law, meaning i won't ship it to AZ, CA, HI, AK, and no oversea or outside of CONUS. 

this is USDA/UCD Black Madeira that i rooted in 2012. it's in 1 gal container and has about 11 or so figs on it. i have kept it in my garage over the winter and did not have any specific issue so far. this is my best Black Madeira out of 4 that i have. it will probably need to be repotted into larger container soon. 

this does have FMV/FMD, so if you are concerned about FMV/FMD, please be aware. 

there is no guarantee. hope it lives long and prosperous, but we all  know what could happen to a tree. the sale is final. 

so.. rich deep into your pocket and help out F4FF :) 

auction will end on 12:00 PM EDT 9/15/13. any bid after that timestamp will not be honored.

bump. will be bumping it few times a day.. just in case there are folks who doesn't have this fig :) i'm sure no introduction is needed on Black Madeira, but per number of forum members who tasted one, they say it's one of the best fig out there.

How hardy is Black Madeira?  I live in South Carolina zone 7b.    Ive heard about it needing a long hot summer to rippen and was wondering if a person grew it next  to a south facing wall with dark rock as a mulch and in early spring put up a temporary lean to with clear plastic to get it growing a few weeks early if this would work?  Or is it a fig that unless you live in a tropical  climate needs to be grown in a pot and moved out and back?  The summers here get very hot on average (this past summer being the exception with ALOT of rain)

i have only grown Black Madeira in my zone, NC 7b, since spring of 2012. i have not push the limit to find out how hardy this fig is. i have heard that this fig can grow and produce well in chicago, IL area with care. it is one of martin's best. and this fig has been talked about in length through out this forum. some calls it the king of fig in taste.

i have heard that this fig will not enjoy temp below 50, then again, i have heard some saying down to 40 is ok. i don't leave it outside below 45. i keep it in my garage over the winter.

i know there are members in canada growing this variety.

i believe martin does fig shuffle every year to help the figs to produce earlier in his area. i'm lot more lazy. i wait till the last frost is over before taking it outside.

For North Georgia. I have this fig in a large pot. My practice is to leave potted figs (VdB, Black Madeira, Peter's Honey, CDD, Enderub) on the deck as long as the temperatures are not below the high 20's. I begin to get a little nervous in the low 20's and slide them into an unheated garage. I bring them back out when the cold snap is over. The soil in the fig pots is often as hard as a rock. I haven't noticed Madeira being especially cold sensitive here, but we haven't had a cold winter lately.
