I have bought a lot of fig trees from Lowe's with the majority being Celeste, Brown Turkey, and Texas Everbearing. When these are mislabeled it isn't a big deal as they are generally one of the three and I generally buy all they have when they are discounted. Two years ago I bought three LSU Purple trees for $21.99 each at a Lowe's located in Henderson Texas. I know there is always the chance for mislabeling but I really wanted the LSU Purples. Long story longer, LOL I don't know what these are but all three are the same and the figs are definitely not LSU Purple. I think they may be Blue Giant because of the size and the leaves. I will keep them as the Blue Giant is my wife's favorite fig. Any guesses on what they may be? I also bought 10-12 "Ischia Fig" trees that had the Green Ischia/Verte pictures shown, so far all the figs are a dark purple fig so who knows what they may be, for $3-3.50 each, who cares.

The closeouts are pretty much a sorry lot and most generally the Garden Dept Manager can make a deal. The discount price is generally 50% and what is left is negotiable but you always should make a deal which includes all of them. I did this at two stores. All of the trees were pruned and up potted and kept as inventory for one year. I get $15-20 for 3 gal trees.

I was at HomeDepot a few weeks back and they had plenty of healthy looking fig bushes - nearly all of which appeared to be mislabeled. I had to fight the urge to fix them, but alas, life is short.

I would love to be a Lowe's fig collector (I've already amassed a sizable orchard of $5-$10 fruit trees), but our store here in Zone 5b puts their fig rootlings (basically just a cutting with a few hair roots on it, potted up in a 1 gal trade nursery pot, which is technically only 0.66 gal) out in late Feb/early March. But then we get hit with a late hard freeze of single digit temps for 2-3 days (sometimes more), and of course those little plastic pots offer little to no protection. If only the associates would bring them indoors on a cart for a couple of days like they do their more tender perennials, but no...since there is usually no greenery on the stem at the time, the poor little fig rootlings are left out of doors to freeze solid as a rock. This has happened for the past three years in a row, with not a single survivor (per one associate who works there). You would think they would learn... :(

Judging from Paully22's wonderful pics dated 7-26-15, it is an Aldo. Gosh those figs are beautiful...too beautiful to pick & eat (hehehe)! As you said, if it is affordable PLUS putting out figs..."who cares" what they call it!!!

I too am a Lowes plant buyer. Every two years in my area you can expect different Figs from the normal Celeste and Brown Turkey. This year, it happened and what they call Celeste is probably Black Mission. They all have 2 tags. A Lowes tag and a source nursery tag.
I called the Nursey tag and spoke to the owner. My source trees came from Monticello Florida called Stimpson nursery. They said mix ups happen all the time because they propagate in huge quantities. When this happens they assign a common tag on the tree. To them, Figs are Figs !
