and i'm hating it. i can't seem to be able to focus on anything. i heard it will take 2-3 weeks to get used to. i can't see my cuttings clearly enough to see if there is any issue. my wife calls me old man.. urgh.. __________________ Pete Durham, NC Zone 7b "don't talk to me about naval tradition. Well Pete, Just an FYI but the picture you posted on the other thread about how close you can cut to the node appears to me that you have snipped off the neighbors cat tail. Not your plant. Something definitely wrong with your eyes. I would up make an alibi if I were you.

Hi bullet08, Some buy a Magnifying glass and it does help ... People I see using the progressive lens always take some time to get the focus. But training helps ... I had laser correction surgery for distance about 16 years ago and it's been great. I just wear cheap drugstore glasses for reading. For some grafting I sometimes used a headband with magnifying goggles. i think i need to go to lenscrafters again. i think the prescription is wrong. if i wear the glasses on tip of my nose, everything is fine. but when the glass is on properly, i can't focus on anything. and i had to wait a week for this. i'm blind as a bat. __________________ Pete Durham, NC Zone 7b "don't talk to me about naval tradition. Did you follow the instructions? It's written in very tiny letters along the inside of the left ear piece. But you have to be wearing your glasses to read it clearly. But seriously, it does sound like there is something wrong with those. You should be able to see close up thru the bottom and far away thru the top, right? There should not be any "getting used to them", unless your talking about had tilt. Lol. I've been considering progressive lenses. I have prescription reading glasses now. But I find there's a certain distance that's to close to see with my glasses and to far to see without. typically, i can see the shapes fine. it's the details i'm missing. i got sick of taking my glasses off when i'm doing detail works. progressive lenses sounded really good. and it's great if i perch the glasses on tip of my nose, but that's not very comfortable and that's not what i paid for. __________________ Pete Durham, NC Zone 7b "don't talk to me about naval tradition. Pete, I've been wearing progressive lens for at least 4 years now. The first pair took a little getting used to, as like when you look down at your desk and swing your head from side to side, it looked like the whole desk was moving. Also looking to the right or left with out moving my head, straight objects looked curved. That went away in time. My newest set doesn't have that effect as I think the sweet spot is wider. When I got these new ones a few months ago I had a new problem. If I looked at and object at least 10' away it was almost alright, but if I looked at something close as in reading I had a problem. I found out that if I closed my right eye and turned my head a little to the right it would clear up. The same to the other, if I closed my left eye and turned my head a little to the left, I could see clear. It seemed like the sweet spots were too far apart. The tech person checked my old glasses against the new ones and she said that they were only 1 mm off and that shouldn't make a difference. My response was, "no matter what you say, I still can see with them". She sent the back to be reworked and when they came in I could see perfectly. I'm not sure what they did but it sure made them work. You paid good money for them so tell them to fix them. Good luck. "gene" __________________ From the bayou, "gene" zone 9 Houma, La.

Pete, I'm sorry tohear that. My doctor says I need a hearing aid for my one ear, its been bad for a while, I'm 25 years old and I really don't want to get a hearing aid(sometimes its nice not being able to hear). Pete wife had that laser suergery years back now eyes are getting bad again , i mentioned to her dont let them mess with your eyes again just wear glasses. Tried the bi focals once did not like them, best thing that happend was one day i put them on roof of Jeep as i was putting some stuff in car and drove off . I use cheap old reading glasses for close up stuff. For far away its getting worse and perhaps one day i'll just get prescription glasses for that . January drivers license was due to expire so i went to DMV and just had to take the eye test and passed luckily. I could have just sent it in and got license that way according to the paperwork since i have no tickets in ages but the place is an express joint and very close - no lines !

Pete, all those chemicals.... pesticides, preservatives, MSGs... colorings, pollution, they will catch up sooner or later.... GO ORGANIC. Lotts of juicing, good fiber, no canned food, no white sugars, white flours and rice... eat dark stuff, you can have white figs though...;)

Martin, my laser surgery was done when I was about 40, correcting for distance vision (I was myopic). I asked the doctor about the chance of my vision getting worse later on. He said if my myopia became worse at my age that I would be written about in many medical journals. Was your wife's surgery performed for reading? The laser surgery involves removal of material from the eye and once it's gone, it's gone, so I don't see how vision could change after surgery unless it was for reading which continues to change later in life. I know of some ladies that had one eye corrected for distance and another for reading. The reading was important to them so they could put makeup on without glasses. I had never thought of the pain that could be. I told my doctor about that and he said the only way he would do that is if his patient wore two different contact lenses first to see if their brain could handle the differences. When my vision was checked 1 or 2 years ago it was 20/15. laser surgery was offered for free. i refused. that's the perk of having bunch of relatives that are all doctors. i don't trust anyone with my eyes. i only have two of them. tho, my wife took the offer. she loves it. her eyes are still perfect after last 5-6 yrs. my little sister took the offer too. but her eyes are now having some issues. i think shape of eye changes or something. glasses are definite inconvenience. but i'm so used to it, it doesn't bother me.. other than the current one i have on tip of my nose. __________________ Pete Durham, NC Zone 7b "don't talk to me about naval tradition. I was hesitant as well but researched the heck out of it and considered the tiny risks were worth it. It was definitely the most ENJOYABLE surgery I've ever had! They gave me two Valium just before the surgery as they want the patient to be relaxed! The only uncomfortable part was sticking this device to pull the eyelid back. "What the heck?" were my thoughts. Then, within a minute, I saw a dazzling purple lightning bolt dance across my eye for maybe 2-3 seconds during which time I thought "FAR OUT, MAN!!!" LOL. A few minutes later, the procedure was repeated for the next eye. I wished I had another eye! ;) They put a bunch of an oil substance my my eye as they didn't want my eyelid to be shifting around my conrea flap. I was told to keep my eyes closed until the following day. I cheated! While being wheeled into the recovery room, I took a tiny peak and could clearly read the time on the clock on the wall. It was amazing. It cost me $3,800 and that was a lot of money but I think it was well worth it. I had some co-workers who were talking of going down to Mexico to have LASIK done as they had heard of others who had it done. It supposedly only cost $500 at the time. I thought they were nuts for even thinking about it. I went to a surgeon who had an excellent reputation and that is the only way I'd get it done. A few years later a co-workers wife went to Mexico to have liposuction performed. I had the old style RK surgery done 15+ years ago back when they used a scalpel, not lasers. Worked great for about 12 years but now my eyes are regressing as I get older and use progressive lens'. Between my Astigmatism and the RK they wont touch me anymore but it was probably the best 12 years of my life being glasses and Contact free. Hi Harveyc, Nevertheless while gardening one should where protection glasses ... Who does ? well, me sometimes . I do wear lenses for normal viewing and sometimes being lazy, I keep the glasses . Here go some kudos for glasses : Some 12 years, I went gardening and go figure why I kept my glasses on - No rendez-vous that day :( . The garden was a bit messy, and I had in a corner of the garden an heavy box that I wanted to move - I bent down to put some extra effort and got hit by an hidden metal bar that was cut at 50/70 cm of height by the former owner of the garden... My luck was that it hit the right part/eye of the glasses in its middle. My glasses are/were thinned, reinforced anti-scratch treated - or they would be too thick... So they took the hit and didn't break nor get a scratch... Sometimes I wonder, what if, that day I had my lenses ... but in fact, I don't really want to think that I would have lost my right eye ... A former colleague did have that kind of matter with no glasses, and had only one eye left... found out what's going on. the fact i'm pushing the glasses toward tip of my nose is that i'm lessening the prescription. this means the new glasses has much stronger prescription than my previous pair of glasses. i was at the lenscrafter last night and they check my old prescriptions and the new one and it seems my eyes has gotten worse over last few yrs. so made new appointment with the eye doc and will go there to see if we can find a compromise. the replacement is free. it wasn't their fault. or doc's.. i must be still young if my eyes are still going bad. __________________ Pete Durham, NC Zone 7b "don't talk to me about naval tradition. Pete types in part - i must be still young if my eyes are still going bad. lol just wait it gets worse least without glasses. ! Always playing with the old model trains repairing them soldering wires etc and thats O gauge engines . Sometimes bring out the jewelers loupe to assist when the reading glasses don't cut it. Course could get stronger reading glasses. Don't need glasses to tell a dark type from a white type fig though !
