As you may have read in other threads, one of my trees suffered some kind of gnawing damage recently. When it came time to move more cuttings to pots, I was afraid to put them near the crime scene. So I put them on the deck outside my bedroom. So just a few minutes ago (about 1 AM) I was sitting in the hot tub on my deck when I heard some scratching near my little fig trees. I reached for my high powered tactical flashlight and spotted a big fat gopher trying to gnaw into my humidity bin. I grabbed the nearest weapon: a large can of chlorine tablets. I hurled it at him. Couldn't have landed a better shot. He's not getting up. Ever. Figs are safe.

One less fig killer in the universe. The figs, and you, will sleep soundly tonight. Nate

We don't have gophers here so the only gopher I know is from the movie Caddyshack.http://gifsoup.com/view/1065721/caddyshack-gopher.html

The only good gopher is a dead one! They are nothing but demons in fur suits. Perhaps you should impall him on a stick and place him near the figs to frighten away his friends. At the very least it would feel very satisfying every time you glanced at it ;-)

Sandy: Carl I want you to kill all the gophers on the golf course.
Carl Spackler: Correct me if I'm wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers they'll lock me up and throw away the key.
Sandy: Not golfers, you great fool. Gophers! The little brown, furry rodents!
Carl Spackler: We can do that. We don't even need a reason.

Nice, quick kill. Congratulations! But as Phil said, don't let your guard down. Keep that can of chlorine tablets handy. Like mice, there is never just one. I however do feel sorry for the critters in California this year. It's so dry out here, there isn't much for them to eat. I suspect they'll go after anything that gets watered.

Yes, as soon as I bought the house, I converted the hot tub to salt water. But that can of chlorine tablets has just been sitting there for the past four years. I knew it would come in handy some day.

Lol awesome post. Well done. Save some gopher meat, and when the summer comes around, roast the gopher and garnish it with fresh figs. Make sure his friends get the message.
Best of luck this season.
