I received cuttings of Black Jack and on the cutting it was written Scott's Black but the person who sent me said they are Black Jack cuttings.

LSU Scotts Black is not the same as Black Jack, no question about that. LSU Scotts Black may not even be a LSU Scotts Black as there are two different ones, an earlier one and a later one. I am not clear on why, but the later one may re-emerge with a different name as there were negotiations between LSU and a large unknown company on the rights to the tree. This was discussed by Dr. Johnson at the LAST(?) LSU Fig Field Day. Our South Louisiana delegation members may have additional information.

don't worry Aaron, its actually pretty simple. You either have a LSU Scott's Black, a Scott's Black LSU, or a Scott's LSU Black... or perhaps it is a Black Jack or a Jack Black????? Oh well... its a fig damn it! Or is it a little black pear??

At the end of the day, taste and productivity are what matters to me. Give me a tree that makes lots of good tasting figs, and I don't care too much what variety it is. And BtW, I have only tasted one fig I did not like, and that was growing in too much shade. In other words, all ripe figs are good, only some are better than other ;-)
