I have a young brown turkey fig tree in a pot and used garden safe insecticidal soap. The next day I found the edges of the leaves damaged as in photo attached. I live in central Florida zone 10. Any suggestions? Can it still be safely used and move the plant into the shade for a day?

Did you spray while the plant was in the sun?

There were some small black spots almost powder looking - and some leaves got light green in color and fell. I thought I would be proactive ........ It was in the sun when I sprayed - later in the day but it is Florida...

that is common reaction when spraying insecticidal soap in light, if you need to spray, best to move it to a location with no sun, wait until the sun is not very intense or spray very early in the morning so it can dry before the sun hits it.

Had the same problem this season...I usually spray with a pretty mild fertilizer 'Foliage Pro 9-3-6', and have never had a problem...this spring I used 'Miracle Gro all purpose liquid 12-4-8' and wound up with leaf burn similar to your pictures...I used a very diluted solution (1 teaspoon to 4gal. water in a backpack sprayer)...the next day the leaves on all my trees started to curl up and shrivel(eventually many of them fell off)...sent immediatly to Amazon for some of the Foliage Pro, and when I start spraying again I will be using that product only...by the way the leaves that survived are growing and doing well, and new leaves are starting to grow to replace the others...good luck with your trees.

I sprayed some of my trees with insecticide a couple of weeks ago (to discourage Ambrosia Beetles that were emerging and looking for a new host trees). It was not a sunny day at all, but it seemed to leave an oily residue that resulted in the same kind of burning a few days later... Jim
