Yes, this isn't the place to advertise..unless it's fig related and still sometimes that can be sketchy depending on scenario. Although, I don't even look in those threads. I just hold my cursor over the title and there never seems to be anything interesting in the smidgen I read.

You can't stop it. There are people who are paid to scour the internet and place as many of these ads as possible wherever they can. Some are more clever than others and put their advertising links in their sig lines while posting ambiguous messages so they won't get immediately banned.
