You probably already got used to the fig finds from the SoCal, here is another one :)

A healthy looking tree, fully loaded with large figs that taste like melons (not water melons!). Light inside, a bit dark outside. I like the taste a lot! It is not super sweet, very refreshing. Enjoy the photos!

I think it is pointless to discuss the name since almost every tree is unique here, it is a Paradise after all! But, if you have any idea as to what variety this is, please raise your hand.

The tree is planted as a part of the landscaping project, not a seedling for 100%.

The ripe fig shown is a breba.

Igor, no idea as to what variety the tree is, but I never get tired of fig finding stories.  That is a beauty for sure!  Looks like it's planted at some sort of strip mall or plaza.  When autumn comes around, and if you're in the neighborhood, I know a place that could use some "landscaping" improvements ;)

Thanks, guys.
The taste was very close to a melon, that is the best description I can think of (I would never be a wine critic).
Not a berry taste like VdB and not honey like Kadota.
That is why I liked it, it was different.
Not crunchy, thin skin, the eye is closed, fully filled inside, sweet just right.
I think obtaining some cuttings shouldn't be a problem.

Bob,
There are two lists :)
One includes Black Missions and the other is for everything else.
If you are on the BM list, you would be getting about 10 per day, just a warning! :D

Hi Greenfig,
The leaf is typical of a BT .
The fig look like maincrop of BT but a bit yellowisher ... Perhaps a version of BT ...

jdsfrance,

Not a chance that this is a BT!
It doesn't even look like the BT, either outside (well, maybe a bit outside) or inside, it doesn't taste like it also.

The leaf shapes are the same for about 70% of the figs, that is not a very unique id thing.

So, that's a breba, because the rest of them in picture are elongated and much younger, while the one you are holding is rounder shaped.

Igor, pictures #4 and #5 are two different figs, maybe there are two roots looking like one tree?  The Ostioles on pics #3 and #4 are yellow but the ones in pic #5 are pink.

Yeap. They are both pear shaped with elongated neck.
It just the older one has a heavy bottom, like for people :)

By a coincidence, I discovered one of the largest fig trees I’ve seen, and it is the same melony variety.
The figs are much sweeter on this one, large and almost white inside, the eye is closed.
The tree is huge and well cared of.

Now that is one prolific tree!  It's gotta be at least 10 years old and well taken care of.
Yeah, I'm also thinking that's NOT a Brown Turkey.

that's one good shaped tree, I would want my trees to be in that height ideally, easy to pick the fruit from.
Great find, I hope you took or will take cuttings from it.
what's the sweetness test on scale of 1-10?

First, I think a BT grown in SoCal is a good fig!
And next, there is no way this one is a BT.

I do not measure the fig goodness by the sweetness since if I want the sweet stuff, I would buy a jar of jam, but since the question has been asked, I would put it 8 out of 10. On this scale, a fully ripe VdB is 10 out of 10.

Personally, I like the figs that are not super sweet, I can eat a bowl of them without having to deal with a sugar rush afterwords.
They must be juicy though to enjoy them and this fig is definitely it!

Ideally, I would like to have both, this one and a berry super sweet figs. They are different in many aspects.

And yeap, the cuttings were collected!

I thought BT have red interiors? This one has White/Yellow.
Also BT is Purple fig, this one isn't.
