I know everybody likes pictures, so I took some and booted up windows to upload them. Hover for more info. Does anybody know anything about that borer? It was in the lower healthy section of a tree that was top damaged during Snowtober and died back over winter. I was given the cuttings last year, they were labeled "Purple Fig" from Easton MD, it is very fast grower. Have not seen any ripe figs yet. __________________ 7a, DE

Thanks Charles, I am doing my best during a busy season. They are growing right in the bags, it is my first year trying it. The sides stay really cool, even in direct sunlight. I just moved those two into the bags from 5 gal. pots and they seem to be getting established really well. __________________ 7a, DE

Very cool! Nice set up. Love the straw, how is that doing for you? After the straw decomposes and the figs have taken root, pine bark chips can be put on top. Doug

The straw worked well. Those are all potted trees though, sunk halfway into the ground, easy to maintain through the season I think I only needed to water every third day. I don't do it like that anymore, using landscape fabric instead which seems to help with heat in the fall. __________________ 7a, DE

Great pics Brent. I'm using straw extensively on my inground trees. I like the fact that it breaks down and adds nutrients as well as providing some protection from the heat. __________________ Dave Verde Valley, AZ Zone 8
