im considering buying a few cuttings and would appreciate some advice. I live in ct(6b) and am looking at: atreano, Maltese falcon, vdb, rdb, Sicilian red, Nero 600, Kathleen black, black Bethlehem, and Lebanese red. It seems like some of these are quite similar, is it worth having them? Do some not grow up here?

The best way to find what grows well in your area is to grow and find out yourself. I will suggest (based on my zone 5a experience) to start with these in your two lists; Atreano, King (Desert), RDB, VDB, Peter Honey, JH Adriatic, 143-36. Then add some next year. Black Madeira is a good variety but one of the late ripening so you may have check around if anyone in your has good experience growing it.

Hello, Your topic is “figs types”;
Ficus Carica (figs) types are; Capri (male figs), Smyrna, san pedro and common .
For Zone 6b only common and a few san pedro figs are of interest.
The fig cultivars you should attempt really depends on whether you plan to grow them in containers or in the ground.
If growing in ground then your climate zone really matters and only a few common figs are known to be successful in zone 6. There are a number of discussions on this topic (try the search) and basically all point to mount etna figs, rdb, lattarula, florea and a few others.
But If you plan to grow your figs in containers then the whole common and san pedro type fig world opens up for you. Any fig variety of these types can be grown in your zone. For some of the late ripeners a greenhouse (or sun room) will help to extend the season to ensure your figs have enough time to ripen.
