Well, yesterday I completed transporting a few trees indoors and it feels good to be finished!  It seems my Oregon Scientific thermostats are working nicely.  It is truly an amazing technology!  I've got 3 wireless temperature remotes.  Remote one is in my greenhouse.  Remote 2 is in my garage.  Remote 3 is in my shed.  My base station sits right next to my easy chair showing me all temperatures including my house upstairs temperature.    All 3 locations are recording room temperatures of my figs.  Here are the stats with pictures.

Remote 1 reads 51 degree humidity of 16


Remote 2 reads 52 degrees - it can't display humidity.  Only one remote can.


Remote 3 reads 30 degrees


I need to go out and check in on them.  Well, maybe after I finish my tea!

Cool system. Do you think you will use that to determine when to put your trees back outside? Your shed must be very close to the outside temp.

Yeah, my shed is just a large metal box with no heat. If it gets too cold in there, I have a portable Coleman propane heater that I can place inside. The shed also has windows. So i can open them it it gets too hot. I've never lost a tree winterized in my shed.

My garage is insulated all around but I only use one side just for figs. The wife's car sits on the other side. The base station also has a freeze alert that flashes green when temps drop past 32 degrees. It's a pretty near device! It also has a built in usb to download data to my computer. Since I'm an IT guy, I like that!

I use one under my house to monitor temps under my house.
No worries of it getting too cold on my water plumbing without me knowing I'm in trouble.
Never had it go below 43 last winter under there with it 18 degrees outside. But dang nice knowing it.

Nice, I bought a similar one a few years ago. But my garage is either to far away from the house or it just couldn't get the signal to go through the garage and house. It never worked, but I have a temp gauge in the garage.

I have a different model Oregon Scientific, and it will not register unless the transmitter is within 5 feet of the device.  Pretty sure it's defective, but it was nice while it worked.

Hey Jon, the sensors range is 100 feet. My shed is 75 feet from my house and it works fine. Right now my GH sensor is acting up. I just ordered a new one. I have a thermocube on my heater. If temps drop under 40 degrees, the thermocube turns the heater on. The GH sensor is the only one that has ever given me problems.

Fun toys, it's cool that you have it recording to your computer.
Whenever I finally put a tree in the ground I have been thinking of putting a sensor in the cocoon so I have an idea what the temperature is inside during the coldest spells as well as in the spring when things start warming up but isn't quite time to un-wrap. Only problem is that generally the batteries in the sensor of the one we have outside already have to be changed once during the winter, that could be a pain for a protected tree.
