Rooting question and Which way is up?

First time rooting cuttings. Using plastic bag and damp paper towels. I have them on a shelf high up in my boiler room close to a steam pipe to maintain heat. I am trying to understand if I have the correct amount of moisture. There is usually a some drops of water laying in the bottom of the bag. Paper towels are barely damp. I am opening the bags every other day to change out the air and the. Blowing them up again. Some of the cuttings are turning a little whitish looking (dry maybe?) but doesn't look like mold. I wonder if blowing. The bags up is adding more moisture to the bags (exahaled water vapor)? Any other advice? Also, which way is up on this one. Looks like a leaf which should be above the scar, correct? Is this a good sign for rooting or indifferent? This is an rdb cutting. The cutting in the paper towel is the right way up. That really confused me too when I started. The big leaf scar is always on the bottom. The two other little bumps that are side-by-side (the new bud and fruit scar) are always on the top. Nice setup! Best of luck!

Yes, it's right side up. Sounds like you've got it right, just be careful of too much water. __________________ USDA Zone 9b Wish list: Abruzzi, Pasquale, Tagliacozzo, Zingarella, Godfather. Any unk Italian, especially from Abruzzo.

Me too use this metod for rooting cuttings, but i put them in horizontal position, wrapped in a piece of paper towel moistened, and then in a plastic bag, unsealed, to allow air to enter. I change frequently paper towels, when they change color, and if necessary replace even in the plastic bag or dip the cuttings in water for some time. When forming roots i remove paper towels, and leave the cuttings in the bag until roots are well formed. If cuttings form the mold i wash them or i treat with a solution of copper sulphate. At this stage of development are ready to be transferred into the substrate:

Thanks all. I am trying half the cuttings of each variety I received in the Baggie method and will maybe try straight perlite or perlite with bark and/or peat 50/50, in small pots or bags soon.
