I have three italian 358. The leaves look similar to 258. Accept one. One of tgem the leaves are deformed tear as they grow. I have a vast amount of figs. Is this the FMV?
None of my other figs look like this. If it is FMV. Should i trash this fig. Thanks in advance. Richie from louisiana

Photos would be best to determine the cause, but I am confident it is the virus. Let it grow, hopefully it will provide plenty of figs in the near future.

Yes, but it is extremely likely that your other figs already have it, but are strong enough not to show symptoms.

Richie,
What is the history of Italian 358? I am somewhat familiar with I-258, I-395, and even Italian Bronze or Black Italian but not I-358.

From the 1 leaf it is difficult to determine if it is FMV. Search FMV on this site and you will find out all about FMV. Apparently it is everywhere. I have only seen signs when I had nutritional issues with my soil mix and when I am heavy on the watering. Whatever you do don't destroy it. I am sure many people would love to take the fig off your hands.

FMV can really hurt a tree if the tree will struggle to live due to a bad climate. Picture you with a lung disease. Hard for you to breathe. Your immune system works overtime to fix what is wrong, but then comes sticky heat and now you fight rust and nematodes. Then comes a freeze and now on top of all else, you have to fight freeze. FMV in a Mediterranean Climate is easy. Nothing matters. The leaves look ugly. Period. BUT a FMV infected tree in a not so ideal climate could have a hard time surviving and producing the delicious figs of your dreams. I actually cured FMV in one of my trees. I stuck it in a pot and it lived for 2 years with 2 leaves! I fried it's roots! If you put your trees in hot sun in a pot, you will cause serious stress and you will kill the virus, but you will see zero growth. When Jon rescued it for me by telling me to flood it with water followed by a dose of Miracle Grow, it took off like a rocket. That fig was Panachee from UC Davis. No signs of FMV. Beautiful tree. It died, sadly. What eventually killed it? The dudes who sprayed the wrought iron fence didn't cover it, and the chemicals killed it. A member sent me another Panachee, and it is doing great in ground. It does have FMV, but no worries here. In it's place went Verte who is going to be 30' tall one day. It's on it's way. That fig has no visible FMV. Got it from Driveway Farmer. Suzi

Suzi. Thank you for the details so the sun acts like
kemo on cancer. But in my climate ( louisiana ) fmv should be ok but dont want my other trees,to get it. I have never seen fmv. The tree came from California. Louisiana not known for it so maybe this climate will kill it. We hit the 100's quite often. Today we were in the 90"s i will keep it away from the others in pot. All my trees are outside now and love it. No sun hardning problems. They grew up outside in greenhouse
so i 5hink that helps. Thanks again Richie
