I have italian honey fig trees that seem to grow a lot slower than my chicago hardy trees. The soil and conditions are the same. Are they normally a slower growing variety?

Can't comment extensively, as my experience growing figs is limited, but my chicago hardy grows like a weed.  Bought late last summer, it put on 10-15 inches of growth on at least 3 branches (on a 1/2 gallon plant in only 3 months!).  Its already put on 2-3 inches/branch this year, and is continuing to branch like mad.  Could be that its just a good grower rather than italian honey being slow...

Some varieties grow slower than others. Sometimes the conditions (soil, etc.) may not be as similar as you think. Watch water drainage as a way to discern differences.
