I planted one of my fig trees inground last summer and winterized it using leaf bags full of leaves and a tarp. The tree made it through the winter and is doing very well considering the chipmunks or mice ate a good part of it. Looks like I will be planting mint around my fig tree or mothballs will be added this year. I think it did well considering how bad of a winter we had. I am glad it turned out well. This winter I will be better prepared to deal with the rodents. I plan on planting another tree outside this summer.

What variety was it?  Was there any die back?  That's quite an accomplishment in your zone.

It is an Unknown Black. The only die back was caused by the rodents. There were a few branches completely stripped of bark and they died. Otherwise the tree was fine. I am on the edge of zones 5/6.

What was your low? Around -15f with many days under -5f?

That's interesting about the mint. Have you tried that before?
