It is very sad to report the cuttings I tried to root have molded :( It was - gross. I admit to not following good practices. I reused some moss, and added some sp moss - big mistakes. I gave myself a good reprimand and promised to never ever do that again!! I still have some old cuttings in the fridge and may start some this week - the right way! Good clean sanitized container and FRESH orchid moss - it worked very well for me a couple of years ago.

I've tried a few rooting media...and I'm never going back from coconut coir. From my 14 UC Davis cuttings (28 after breaking in half), 100% of them rooted. Go to a pet store and pick up a brick of coir, wet it, but not soaking...it will take some time to break it up with your hands....your fingers will hurt when you're done...but it will be worth it. Oh, and I didn't have any mold. I did dunk my non-tip cuttings in 10% bleach for a few seconds though...that probably helped

I made the mistake of trying to reuse sp peat moss and had terrible results too. Live and learn. ;)

I have the orchid moss already so I will use it. I did soak them in bleach also just in case - maybe it wasn't strong enough. Oh well - live and learn!
