Started as a cutting in winter of 2012/13.  It set 20 some figs this year, here is the first one. The dormant terminal bud on this branch was somewhat damaged by some sort of tiny bug inside the bud case, so this branch produced one deformed leaf and the result was essentially same as being pinched. It set this one fig about 2 weeks ahead of all the others.

I am very happy with the flavor of this first taste. It doesn't look all that great and I don't have good descriptors yet, but the flavor was rich, the skin was tender, and the overall texture was pleasing.  The interior of the fig looks nothing like the pictures of the figs from the mother tree, which makes me excited for what the future will hold. Based off of my expectations of what a great fig should be, I'll give it an 8-8.5   It was much better than my RdB so I have to add the up to 0.5 variable.

I have a bunch of pictures of the leaves, I'm hoping maybe Andreas may have some ideas as to the ID. The pictures of the waspless fruits from the mother had much more red in the interior, less white pith, and not much for a noticeable void. Hopefully I can add some pictures like them to this thread in the future.

Here are a couple pictures of the first Hardy Chicago of the year also. The first picture was taken 2 nights ago. This is the second year of getting fruit from this tree. They are about 20% bigger than last year. I'm not happy I had to pick this one a couple days early. It was fine this morning and sometime today the paper wasps found it. It was good, but 2 more days and it would have developed the richness and thicker texture. So it was a 7 for me today.  I now remember the wasps liked HC last year also and I had to apply the Apple Maggot Baggies for protection.

Beautiful figs and beautiful pots! I love how the leaves look.
What are those green rings on the branches?

Heavy duty plant tie. It's a thick coating of soft rubber over wire. I use a heavy gauge copper wire to train my scaffold branches and I use the green tie wire to attach the branches to the copper wire.

Does this tree resemble yours?

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Leon, I bought the cuttings from Navid on eBay. He was good about answering all my questions about the source. He said the source tree for his cuttings was brought over from Greece about 3 decades ago. It is in WV in ground, the owner loves it and wraps the tree each year, and it is huge. Obviously, he doesn't know the variety either. Maybe if he reads this thread he'll post some pictures of what the ripe fruits look like from an older tree.

Hi Calvin, thanks for posting about this one. I also got cuttings from Navid, and rooted them in March. The plants are doing well, but the fruit is not as far along as yours. Having high hopes for this Unk Dark Greek, I am happy to hear your praise of the taste. With luck, maybe the identity will become known. Thanks.

Andreas, does the tree/leaves remind you of any of the known varieties you have?

Calvin, thank you. I also have a Navid Unk Dark Greek, no figs yet but I hear that it is very good.

Seems you can't change titles anymore. I was going to update this thread, but looks like I need to make a new one.
