I got this variety as a cutting in winter 2014 through Ricci and Barry. They have posted on the Bisirri figs before - there are two or three distinct varieties brought to Philadelphia from Italy by Mr. Bisirri.  For example, see these threads:

The relationship between Bisirri versions called #1, #2, #3, small and large is rather complex - maybe Barry can clarify this once the different versions are producing fruit.  Anyway, all that aside, this is one excellent fig!  This is one of the best tasting figs I have had this year.  The flavor profile is very rich and complex, on par with the fruits ripening from my Figo Preto.  My photos don't really do it justice (need a new camera) but the skin is striking red as it ripens and ends up being a very dark red with white spots when fully ripe.  The pulp is kind of an orangish/light red color.  I am wondering if it is related to the Sal's-Corleone family based on leaf shape and fruit shape.  However, when I tasted my Sicilian Red a couple years ago I don't recall it having the really rich flavor profile that Bisirri Large has.  It also seems like the Bisirri Large leaves might be smaller.  Anyway, this is one of the big surprises so far in 2015.

Steve,

Is this Bisirri 1,2, or 3? Looks great no matter which number. I have #3 and would rate it among my favorites this year.

Bill, you are getting to the crux of the confusion about the naming of these figs.  I am hoping Barry will weigh in on this thread.  Short answer is that I don't know.  Glad you like #3.  Please post the fruit and leaves sometime if you haven't already.

Exoticplants1, you might want to consult with Barry (BLB) before doing so as the nomenclature is confusing.  It sounds like Mr. Bisirri may refer to this one as "Bisirri Light" rather than Bisirri Large.  If you go now when the figs are ripening that should help though.

Bisirri#3 definitely is not a Sals Corleone/Aldo Palermo red/Sicilian red type fig. So I guess that eliminates #3. I thought I heard Bisirri #2 was also dark. Perhaps Bisirri#1 is Bisirri "light", but I shouldn't comment on this because I don't have #1 or #2 to compare. Here are my pics for Bisirri #3-it is like candy-mt. Etna candy. A Sicilian friend of mine ( who isn't easily impressed by figs-because he calls them all "weeds") said, " ahh..it's a pretty good fig." A glowing endorsement...

Bill, yours actually looks quite a bit like the Bisirri Large that I am growing but it is hard to conclude that they are the same.  Just to clarify, I think there are some similarities of Bisirri Large to the Sal'sC family but I don't necessary think it is a member of that family.  Barry grows both Sal'sC and Bisirri Large and he says they are not the same.

I have Bisirri 1 and 2.  B2 is a black fig....excellent tasting too!   B1 is a white fig and also great tasting!  I got mine from Almost Eden.

YAY!!! The leaves on my Bisirri #3 look nothing like Bill's.  It is on my list of trees to move from Texas to Colorado.

James, I noticed that too when I compared your pic posted in another thread to what Bill shows above.  It seems like with the Bisirri figs the only thing you can be sure of is the behavior of your own personal tree.  The relationship of your tree to anyone else's is probably going to be a mystery.

Mohan, that was pure speculation on my part prompted by the appearance of the fruit and leaf shape.  The only way to know one way or the other would be by DNA testing. I think the tendency by many of us when we are evaluating a fig that is new to us is to consider what other varieties it has the most similarity to.
