Hello everyone,

I found this forum yesterday when I was seized with doubts about what I was doing with my new cuttings! I asked for advice and was bowled over by how quickly people responded. Thank you so much.

I have a very very small garden in the middle of Tokyo. It is almost as crowded as a commuter train in the mornings. I currently have 3 figs -- supposedly a Pastiliere, a Rouge de Bordeaux and a Black Mission. I say supposedly because although the figs were all labelled as such, the first two haven't fruited and the last one is definitely NOT a Black Mission, as it produced tiny figs like those very small Chinese ones. They were a pinky green.

I have just got hold of six cuttings for a Qing Pi fig. So excited.

I don't have much fruiting success as although my garden faces south west, I don't get enough sun because of high buildings around me. My figs are in containers on wheels, so that I can drag them around chasing the sun. I am now thinking of getting hold of a very small plot of land just outside of Tokyo, where I can plant directly in the ground the stuff that doesn't need daily care.

I also have three hawthorns that I love dearly! One from Japan, one from China and one from England. In the summer I grow leaf amaranth, a Jamaican variety, and a Chinese variety.

Yesterday I spent hours reading some of the forum posts from beginning to end. All fascinating!

I am really excited to be here!

Welcome to the fig Forum. I am sure you will get over the beginners hiccups and soon start enjoying fig fruits.
Try to acquire Matsui Dauphin which is widely grown in Japan.

Hello from Thailand,  Ashita.  Try growing Horai, it does very well here. Don't worry, many varieties haven't produced fruit for me in their first year, also.

Welcome, Ashita. Pastiliere and Rouge de Bordeaux are synonyms for the same fig. I have it also, and it is one of my favorites.

Wish list:
Galicia Negra, Violetta,
Violette de Sollies, Dan_la's Black Beauty 10, Craven's Craving, Most important: YOUR FAVORITE FIG. A lot of people put emphasis on popular/exotic cultivars, which is great because it highlights some of the better fig varieties; however, I am most interested in the figs our members love regardless of pedigree.
Currently Growing: a bunch of varieties.
