Here are some photos of my GI fruit I picked this morning, it's a little late this year! I had forgot how wonderful the taste is, for sure a berry taste maybe like a light Strawberry taste and sweet as sugar...: ) Frank from Bama

That looks great, Frank. Beautiful pictures. How does the flavor compare to Adriatic JH ( assuming you have that one, also)? I ask because I have Adriatic JH, Bataglia green, Paradiso bronze, and Rockaway green, which all taste somewhat similar( Adriatic fig flavor profile), but I don't have Green Ischia to compare it. Thanks.

Very nice Frank! It's not been a good year for my green figs with red centers. Every variety has been dry and leathery despite having ample water.

Great fig! I hope to get some of these off my tree when it gets older. It has FMV so its taking a little longer then the rest.

Becky...One of my GI has FMV and the other does not? Do not understand this : ) That's very interesting Frank, I am assuming both plants are from separate sources and are not cuttings from the same source? If they are cuttings from the sample mother tree that's very strange indeed.

I'm with you, Frank. Even when conditions aren't optimal, Green Ischia ripens to very tasty infructescence.

Frank,
Thanks for sharing. I live a bit south of AL...my brown turkey (4 years old) has had to regrow from the base 3 times...this last winter was not too bad, but splitting (frost dammage) in the trunk had me pruning it to the ground.
This year i plan to winter protect my figs with wire cages filled with mulch...might give them the girth they need to survive.
I have seen GI advertised for zone 8 and up , some places claim 7 and up...
At least you have some figs to show for your efforts...my bt has 20 figs that dont look like they will ripen in time

Looks nice Frank. Mine were good this year, not great. Like Cal's experience, mine were rather small and a bit leathery. Still a good fig. Every single one on my tree ripened. About 25 fruits.

Wow, if it doesn't dieback this winter it looks like your going to have a ton of brebas next year.

Cal, this is not a heavy breba producer. In fact, it is a unifera cultivar, mine produced one breba and I would say that was anomalous.

Living in very hot areas like zone 9A Battaglia green dominates the green skin red center figs. I have grown Ventura, Verte, Strawberry Verte, Vasilika Sika, Smith, Col de Dame Blanc and JH Adriatic. Hands down Battaglia Green is the most aggressive grower with the largest fruit, quick to fruit and very prolific. Awesome strawberry Jam with a bite of acid to balance it going into the 3rd year it is really something. My best growers here are Battaglia Green, Genovese Nero, RDB, Conadria and Col de Dames.
