Hey guys. Was wondering if you would be able to help me identify this fig variety. This is my neighbors tree he got from another neighbor, so we don't know origin. My neighbor has been growing this fig in ground here on long island for about 5 years and it survived hurricane sandy. This year it put out like 50 figs but only 3 ripened so far, I told him to pinch early on, But he let it grow out. These just ripened this week and he pulled this one before the crazy rain. It was an amazing fig, 44 grams and I think had a complex taste but I've only had a handful of unknown variaties so far.

He calls it natalina since it ripens so late, he's from Sicily- this is just the term he uses for late season figs. The fig honey was pouring out, very yummy.

The primary leaf pattern is the 3 with cankles, or 5 leaf (not sure what to call it). Hoping maybe vasile might be able to call this one.

Well dont think its green ischia eye to big and wrong time of year. How old is the tree?

My neighbors is about 5-6 years old. He got it from a neighbor near my daughters park. The original one, no one knows how long. I see dead wood that looks like a pretty thick caliper, maybe 2-3". But obviously the plant has died back more than once. The owners bought the house with it.

Possibly latarolla due to reddish pulp?? Just from research I have done so far.

Is Not Latarolla,it is:
Sicilian White
It is a nice fig but not too good for rainy climates,with rainy Summers.
Just like all other Sicilian figs,that come from a semi dry climate,it does not like rain while is ripening.
And is not late to ripe it is middle season like Violette,but this tree most likely died to soil line twice in a row,in 2014 and 2015,,just like most trees did in the north east.
So it is depleted of energy reserves,that is why is late ripening.
A handful of early figs i have were late to ripe this year for the same reason.

Vasile, surprisingly it hasn't died to the ground since I have lived at my house (I actually don't think it ever did from when I asked him), you might not be able to see but the pictures of leaves has has the main trunk behind it, It's about 2" caliper. It's the same trunk that I have known since I moved here over 3 years now. He protects it really good in winter. As you know we had a great summer for figs, I'm wondering if its ripening late because the tree put on SO many figs and he didn't pinch the tree put all its energy to new growth instead of ripening existing figs.

He said it always ripened late, so very odd. Is Sicilian White a BC variety?

Yes they had it.
I Had mine from Marcanthony on this forum,from Long Island NY.
My Sal Corleone is not ripe yet,My Sicilian Black had a couple of fruits ripe ,and the rest not ripe yet:
Yes no doubt the 2 Winters did a job on them one way or another.

Thanks Vasile - appreciate the quick ID on this. I will be wintering mine inside garage (mine is only 20" right now), so hopefully next summer i'll get this mid season since this fig was very good in my opinion. I guess there might be a bunch of BC figs randomly here on long island, i know of a few more people with figs in their yard. I think its time to start getting friendly with them ;)

Belleclare was selling Sicilian white with description just like yours!
All Sicilian figs got a problem here in the northeast and south:
Too much water in the soil.
In Sicily,annual precipitation is on or under 25 inches ,so they suffer here!

Edit Note:There are more than one Sicilian white in the Belleclare list.
This one seem to be yours:

(Artata Musomelli) Common type. Large, green-yellow, thick pink to amber center, 2 crops.


I would not put a lot of wight on the word large!.
