Hi everyone:

I just read some of your comments about overwintering figs.

I have had a Hardy Chicago Fig, from Richters, that I kept indoors for the last three years. Last fall I planted out in my garden. The spot was somewhat protected from north winds, zone 5b. I mulched it with about 2 feet of ground leaves. The rabbits did a number on it and I thought it would surely die.

Lo and behold this past spring it sprang back from the bottom and grew about three feet tall, although no fruit. I will mulch it again and hopefully it will produce fruit next year.

Welcome to the forum!  Best of luck with your plant.  You might want to have a back up tree in a pot in case the one in the ground doesn't make it.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
You could use a (80liters/20galllons) trashcan with bottom removed, put it over the tree till the trashcan touches the ground and fill it with dirt from the nurseries.
The rabbits won't be able to get to the bark, and the tree would be protected from the cold.
Good luck !
