Wow. I just tried a variety "Rubado" that I got from cuttings a few years from Maggie Maria ( for those of you who remember her). I've been waiting a few years for this tree to fruit. It was certainly worth the wait. I had no idea what to expect from it because I hadn't seen much written about it or really any pics of it. It isn't the belle of the ball in the looks department. I wasn't sure what color it was even supposed to be, but the flavor is very unique. It may sound weird, but it kind of tasted artificial. What I mean is it was " ester-y" like. It reminded me of a strawberry lifesaver or jolly rancher I guess from the smell and sweet flavor with an acidic finish. I don't think the acidity was due to any souring as some figs do. I can't be sure since I've only had about five so far, but I really like the flavor and of course it gives me a chance to sing " Mr. Rubado" and annoy my wife. I am trimming the tree today, so I have a good number of...Styx. I may try offering some to our members for a nominal fee, I'll have to double check on how many I have.

That is a funky and interesting looking fig bill. Love ugly figs that taste great, less likely people will randomly pick the fig off tree. If you still have after pruning and sharing, I would be interested in trying to grow this fig out, let me know and I can send you some mulah.
