Mine have all grown really fast. My biggest concern is they grow so fast, they don't have time to harden off their branches and they will break off in the wind. My first one is 8 months old 6ft tall with 54 figs on it with 30 almost ripe. Some of them were slow to root, around 60 days. But once they rooted, they grew just as fast as MBVS, which is a very fast grower.

I received a Figo Preto cutting last January from a very generous member here in SoCal, and it was the last cutting to root, out of a dozen fig trees I started. It seemed like forever in comparison to 143-36 and Yellow Long Neck which only took three or four weeks. Preto only grew about 6-8" inches for me between May and November. It really sulked. Since it woke up this Spring it has grown more vigorously. It's maybe 20-24" tall right now. In comparison to my YLN, the Preto is still really slow. However, it is definately more vigorous this year than last.

I received one cutting from a member and my Preto in pot, in its second leaf is loaded with figs. It grew about three feet in its first year after rooting it indoors during the winter. It even had figs last year but did not ripen them. Some cuttings don't take off as fast as others, they sometimes need more time and possibly a whole season to catch up.

Painfully slow to root. I am still babysitting small cuttings from last year. However once they get going after being up potted they are average growth rate. Beautiful clean leaves, could be the best.

Well hopefully it survives growing through Texas heat. Sounds like the variety is a good one.

I know your a few hours north of me but in my neck of the woods it's been very cloudy and things just are not growing as I fast as this time last year. All my trees are slow starters this year. Once the heat and sun kick in I'm confident the rate of growth will be exponential.

Thank you Don,Brian, This is my only specimen. If transferred to in ground the rate of growth as I noticed with other fast growing varieties,

I have 3 preto babies. Mine are slow right now. I have one that dropped all its leaves 3 months ago but is still green and alive... and refuses to wake back up. Hopefully it will wake up and get with the program. The other 2 have been slow for me thus far, but I have heard that they can sometimes hit a lull and then put on some nice growth later. For some reason, I've heard, that some tend to stall out from time to time. Hang in there.
Galicia Negra, Violetta, Violette de Sollies, Dan_la's Black Beauty 10, Craven's Craving, Most important : YOUR FAVORITE FIG . A lot of people put emphasis on popular/exotic cultivars, which is great because it highlights some of the better fig varieties; however, I am most interested in the figs our members love regardless of pedigree.
