I had two Figs develop on this very young Black Madeira. Since I have not had the chance to taste this variety yet, I decided to leave them on. Unfortunately the first one spoiled with mold and could not eat. I woke up to this after two inches of rain last night. It was in my small greenhouse but I guess it is too humid. Doesn't appear to be any bugs in it yet but also doesn't appear to be quite ripe yet. What would you do?

This year doesn't count. Even if you manage to eat it, the flavor won't be indicative. The tree is too young to ripen tasty figs.

Your best chance for a good tasting fruit is to leave it as long as possible. Then pick and cut it into small pieces, about 6-8. Then dry it in a dehydrator or near a heat lamp until the pieces start getting firm. I'm doing that now and just ate some very tasty Battaglia Green, Preto, Black Madeira, and Maltese Beauty. Same reason too much water and humidity.

They all taste very good. This is my first taste of MB and I'm interested and hopefull..!!

Sas was right. I had to pick it. Didn't want it to go to waste. Flavor was good but not great like everyone says. It definitely could've used a couple more days but wasn't sure if it would continue to ripen with it split like that.

Hi,
At least, she didn't go flower style. I had 2 on a tree gowing flower style, totally opened like blown from an inside grenade.
