Purifying my stuff. Sergei Snitkovskiy, Another Russian, what a surprise. I contacted him because he showed pictures of long fresh cuttings and sent short old cuttings. He sent an immediate refund and said he would change the pictures, he didn't. I am dumping 6 varieties from these schmucks. It even looks like dausername1, radyslava, and 77peony pull from the same tree, I would put money on it. The member that had his picture used was probably just the picture to make his crap look good. The good part of this lesson is that it has caused me to account for everything, and document it. 3 months wasted...better than years. lol

You should grow them out to show everyone what variety they are or from the same tree. Everyone has said they are a scam but know one has showed what it looked like in the end.
I know most of the cuttings they sell are always rotted

Nothing has grown. 77peony wanted the cuttings back she's got em When I pulled them there was absolutely no signs of growth 30-60+ days. Dausername1 so far no sign of growth. Working on Radyslava, still have them, but no sign of growth. Minus the mob showing here, my starting rate is @95%. If anything does grow, I will grow it out to see, at this point just because.

FYI - I did some searching and the user ID name Dausername1 did not show up on eBay, it's actually dausername1 (lowercase first letter).

If I am buying, I would only buy from directly Bass, Jon, Harvey, Vasile or regular participants in the forum. Not worth waiting for some 3 or 4 years before knowing what the real variant is. In my early years as a fig hobbyist, I was scammed in trade by a guy posing as grandma and almost all the cuttings were Brunswick & Osborne Prolific. This guy also uses this forum as a short term member and many other F4F forum members were scammed by him too.

Cute, translation? There is a difference between selling something that doesn't grow, and something that isn't going to grow. New to figs, not gardening and not born yesterday. My case; 1. near 100% germination rate, almost 100 plants started. 3 types and 8 cuttings from radyslava, 2-3 months 0% germination? I have been growing from seed and serious gardening for almost 20 years. If I get 0% on anything there is a problem. 2. Every response in the forum had the same experience. Please chime in with positive results. 3. Why are they all sending small, thin at least two year old wood? Because they take longer to root and members have the courtesy to wait which puts you outside of the return policy. In other words you won't have to wait two years to find out you've been had, just @ 2-3 months. 4. How big and old are these trees that there is an endless supply of rare, older wood cuttings from different types, in an apartment in New Jersey in the middle of January? Should be able to see them from the interstate 95. 5. abcd, abcd gulenok, Alex gulenok, radyslave gulenok, Korina, names used in reference to @10 different ebay accounts that have, according to the posts here, been scamming people for years. My experience confirms what I have read. See ebay scammers thread. 6. Yes, I have and am, growing several plants from older wood. 7. If you see I am wrong here please correct me. I can always learn something new, but as an employer, I would want to know if someone had a history of deceiving people for years, before they had access to my business and lively-hood. 8. When you give these people the opportunity to explain or at least reassure you of your purchase, it doesn't go well. I am in the middle of this one, but as an example, when I politely addressed 77peony she was immediately defensive and basically told me to screw off. I said not a problem once I got my money back. 9. The repeated pattern of scum taking advantage of peoples generosity and kindness may not stop, but where a pattern exists it should at least be annoyed if not terminated (meaning Ebay accounts).

Do you think all the cuttings this guys sells has issues? I ask because I bought two Ronde de Bordeax cuttings from him a couple weeks ago, the cuttings look ok but according to you, they may not be what I thought I was purchasing. The only way to know is wait two years when they are producing fruit. I don't want to wait two years to find out they are some other variety, I have enough celeste and brown Turkeys, I don't need more. Thanks for your information and warning though, I definitely won't be doing business with this guy in the future, I use a seller out of Quartsite whenever he has the variety I am looking for, goes by apache011-2. So far so good with him. Newk Also if you notice, all his cuttings are $10 before shipping, I don't care how common or scarce they are, all $10. He also lives in New York, I have learned not to trust very many people who live in New York. I think he's from Brooklyn. Figs 4 Fun needs a list of all these ebay and yahoo scammers.

I received lsu gold from him and honestly will not know myself for prob. two years, if they grow. Posts have listed him as unreliable, among others. My experience was getting older, or too old wood as described above. He is currently listing on Ebay, using pictures of fresh, long cuttings and sending old ones. He has made a choice to continue to deceive people on a daily basis, so you decide. I would contest the sale for a refund and see what you get if they grow. I think the route on this for larger sales with scammers might be filing a complaint with individual States Attorneys and consumer protection, as Ebay is numb to this. I have been filing "Item not as Described" complaints to listings, but they are perpetual. Nothing new, Buyer Beware.

Unfortunately the generosity of members that I unknowingly came across first, led me to this trap. The first person I asked a question to, and corresponded with, happened to be James. One of the first people I bought from, and traded garlic and seed with was figgyfrank and other reputable and generous people, with time, patience, information and cuttings. My first plant was given to me by Mario. After over 1000 transactions worth @ $50,000 online, and ebay, buying coins, cars, guitars etc., I never imagined the first real scam would be figs. $$$, yeah I get it. This site is awesome, but being new you also need to know what questions to ask. Keeping a post like this up front keeps it seen where us newbies can find it. My hit was fortunately minor. The good part is, it has caused me to document my sources, while I still could, and keep records of who they are passed to. I have been growing cuttings since September and have already given away ten plants with more to come so it may be responsible to keep track also.

Hello Mike, It's been awhile since I was here, so new people can come in and I wouldn't know. Welcome. I've gotten a few little trees from different places that turned out not to be what they were supposed to be that I think it's just the way things go with figs. Most are as the people say they are. There are only certain people I would buy from on eBay, but if you don't know about them, that's not an option. :) Now, you will and that's good. I'm glad that when you were scammed, it wasn't so bad. What can be a real trap is to sell something you've gotten from someone before you have seen the fruit from those trees, by taking the word of who you got it from, who may also be mistaken. But the good people are all too happy to make good on such things and that's the big difference because things happen. Thank you kindly for letting me know how what happened to you, happened to you. Some times it's real hard to turn away when the fig fever hits you. You know--The cold sweats and goose bumps, dry mouth, etc. LOL! I know how that is..... With the figs, it takes awhile before you find out about a scam because it would some time after the trees/cuttings grow before you would harvest fruit, so people get away with that more easily. Blessings and good luck in your fig hunts in the future. I wish that for all of us who are honest and who care about what they're doing. noss

I PERSONALLY HAVE BOUGHT A LOT OF FIG TREES OFF OF EBAY AND WHATEVER THE PICTURE IS, THAT'S WHAT I GOT, BUT I ALWAYS SENT AN QUESTIONAIRE TO THE SELLER ASKING THEM IF WHAT IS IN THE PICTURE IS THE ACTUAL PRODUCT I WAS GOING TO BE SHIPPED!! NEVER A PROBLEM YET!! GOT LOTS OF DIFFERENT VARIETIES! J.F.Y.I. !!

Man! I wish I have seen this thread before ... I recently bought some fig cuttings from dausername1 - what a nightmare - just for me paying for them (p/p shows transaction still pending; why?!?). I asked for a cancellation for the whole deal - if not and if the cuttings are in bad shape; I' ll return them asap. Stay away from this guy (ChristopherR ?).

@paully22: Done. Edit: Giving some credit due; dausername1 DID work with me very nicely about the cancelling. From what I'm reading here, one ailment seems to be that some people (before selling) need to learn how to 'winter-store' fig cuttings and keep them viable .... All is swell that ends well.

In all fairness, canceling works to this scammer's benefit as well... they cannot receive a deserved feedback from a buyer on a canceled auction.

Last year before I knew about all these scammers, I bought a fig from one. it was supposed to be Red Lebanese. It was not identified as the Bass one, or the Bekaa one. I decided to chalk up the experience as lesson learned. It's a first leaf fig but did produce some fruit. it appears to be some type of red fig though. I don't think it is the bass version or the bekaa version (I have both now). It was good too, so at least it's a decent fig. The Bekaa fig is outstanding by the way. On the bass fig I need to sample more, it's good too, but need a more mature tree to really give a good opinion. Now to see which can make it through my winter in the garage! My garage usually stays above freezing and i will heat if needed. Last year went very smooth, it was cold too!

Thanks for the feedback on bekaa, I was considering it this year. On topic: I bought some de la reina mp cuttings from dausername1. They basically took a 2 year old tree and cut it back to a 4" stump and sold cuttings as a lump auction. The cuttings were freshly taken and obviously from the same small tree. I lost a few off the bat because they left leaves on one of the cuttings...so it arrived dessicated. The cuttings were random sized, some 3" others 11". Not at all the nice 8-10" we prefer. I knew the cuttings were a bit random, I just didn't know they would be recut after the picture was taken and before shipping. I didn't pay a lot for them, so if any taken ill hang on to it to see what comes of it.

It's not so surprising these scammers have not been reigned in by SleezeBay. I have been to them repeatedly and they never follow up. As long as they make a buck they could care less. I think the same about our Department of Agriculture and foreign sellers on Ebay. If they were so interested about imports, they would make Ebay confirm proper paperwork before allowing them to sell on the site. With the number of complaints and the time table involved, I think at this point they are all coconspirators and should be sued through a class action lawsuit. The AG allowing the sale and profit, the seller and Ebay, then showing up at unsuspecting purchasers for confiscation defines entrapment. If I had the money I would try myself. Buyer Beware! If your cuttings come in and look black, send them back. I have seen some of these cuttings and they look like they were in a freezer. If you can get cuttings like this to grow you are probably Jesus. Mike

Dave, this is good advice! The bad sellers will get weeded out, eventually. I think most people who are trying to do business honestly will be known by others in a forum. I bought many cuttings on Ebay before coming here. Sadly, I it was money wasted. When I came here and read how passionate people here are about figs & got good advice & learned more & more, i then knew that I had been scammed by fraudulant Ebay sellers. I never rooted any from Ebay. I learned the hard way!

Sage advice Dave. Makes a lot of good sense. People here would buy more relaxed. And sure they would buy safely. All depends now of forum member sellers opinions.

Why not start a continuously updated sticky on the F4F forum of trusted eBay sellers and their corresponding F4F names?

I will readily agree, most are very honest, and reliable. I have met great friends and people from the forum there. And have made friends/conversations, with several others. A good heads up is when if you politely ask someone a question, they get defensive instead of informative. Mike

And eBay doesn't seem to care about him or any of the other apparently related scammers. They continue to ignore everybody's comments about him and other scammers because as long as they collect their fees, they are happy and blocking them, even temporarily, flies in the face of their business model....
