Hie all.

So this winter (Down under) i have rooted semi hardwood and hard wood cuttings. The semi hardwood cuttings took forever to root ~3 weeks on a heatmat @ 25c while the hardwood ones i started last Thursday have roots growing in a period of under a week on a heatmat but at 23c! Out of the 5 mature hardwood cuttings, 4 have rooted and the 5th one is not too far behind.

Is this a common thing with the age of the wood of the cuttings that the older the cutting wood the quicker it would root?  My rooting medium is 80% coir and 20% perlite.

I think it works the other way.  The younger the cutting the faster it roots (sometimes).
Others may have differing experience.

Most of the time when I take a cutting and root it right away it seems to grow immediately regardless of whether it is green or lignified. Shipping can be an issue with green cuttings.

Old dormant cuttings seem to vary a lot. some root right away some take months to start.  Rooting hormones sometimes seem to speed up rooting.

Thanks for your input. I did think that the younger cuttings would take a lot less time but the quick rooting of the mature puzzled me. I have used rooting hormone on both sets young and mature.
