Run baby run; plenty (make that TONS) of good figs available!...
Using Jon's own one-word term, just "enjoy"!

-------
[E1 (02/08/2010): come  past date 02/11/2010, I will edit/DELETE
the 'attached' fig-list below, because of it tending to CHANGE
very, very  rapidly. For the MOST recent avail. stuff,
pl. see the link provided above, it should/will be much more up to the date].
------
[E2 (2/16/2010): as mentioned above, I just deleted the
initial fig list; for any updates, please refer to above provided (URL) link...

Gorgi,
To the unsuspecting eye, One would think Gorgi lost his marbles.
But to the ones that have seen Jons list then they would understand what you did.

Martin,
Sometimes it's good to lie to your spouse, I do it alot ( in a good way, LOL ).

Example; What? What package are you talking about? Let me see, Oh, ha ha ha, One of my fig buddies sent me some plants/cuttings, How nice of them. You know honey, There are some few good decent people out there after all.

Of course she never buys into it, She never does. But she understands it's harmless and a hobby and it keeps me home and out of trouble.

She just shakes her head, smirks and walks away.

I also put in my list.
As a newbie, I am still confused by the source nomenclature.  I say still because I ordered last year without understanding this.
I understand Jon is busy and will likely answer when he has time in 2 months, but if anyone else cares to explain sooner I would appreciate it.
Example-
If I wanted to order Black Mission there is an option of 6, NL, and Q.
The Black Mission small has a number 1007 and Jon says the 1000s are from the "FN" collection.
I have looked at the variety section sources but still do not get it.

My question answered and order placed.
Italian cheek kisses to Jon now the hard part when they arrive as i will get 1 stick of each which is quite understanable and least i have a chance at something i could not otherwise get and if all fails i just try again next February !

;)(:

Rafed i used that excuse and i made a trade excuse as well, good thing im retired as the mail lady usually comes before she comes home from work.
But she is a sweetheart as she also shakes her head and long as they dont poke her when she needs to get into her car early in morning when they are stored she does not complain, as you said it keeps us out of trouble.

Nelson,

Chocolate is always appropriate.

Kyle,

The abbreviations indicate where they came from. They have probably arrived from a hundred sources. Some sources are publicly known, and others prefer to remain private. "FN" is a more private one. In many cases, such as Black Mission and Mission, there are many, many strains. "Q" came from Quail Gardens in Encinitas, CA.  "NL" Came from New Life Presbyterian Church, La Mesa, CA. I consider it the best I have tasted. I don't remember where "6" came from, at the moment. By using the abbreviations, you can see the differences when you look at the picture galleries at Figs 4 Fun. But what I like may not be what you like. IN any case, I keep them separate, rather than lumping them all together as "Mission" or "Black Mission".

When it comes to to Celeste, JN, PM, GM and IS have all been proven producers. Others have less history.

Jon, do you have any idea when you will let people know if the cuttings requested are still available? I emailed my list and am just curious when I might know something. Thanks.

I keep telling myself....I will be patient...I will be patient...I will be patient....

Great list Jon, lots of desirable varieties. Placing the order in numerical order is difficult to say the least. I hope I am doing it right...

Yea Mike I am a little worried I may have done it wrong as well. I didn't totally understand the instructions but I think I have it right.

I'm cofused where it says to ignore the pricing code letter, but Jon's example still has the letter in front of the number. Should I keep the pricing code or remove it?

pitangadiego

Keep the Pricing code letter, but arrange them by the numbers, not the price code letter. They are stored by number.

Hope I did mine right the second time around.

Damnit, I just realized I didn't even order correctly.  Arrgghhh.

I left the number off.  I guess that's what I get for ordering from my BlackBerry.

Do I need to re-submit my order?

Yes, Jason, your order was round-filed for improper form. There's always next year.

I have packed the first orders, and sent e-mails. Hope to get a good portion of the rest done tomorrow and Thursday.

Jason: ;-))) see your e-mail.

Jason I know what you mean I too used my phone and couldnt read the instructions too good and dont believe I ordered properly either

As computer geeks are fond of saying, we have to "RTFM".  I had to re-do my order 3 times.  Every time I re-read the instructions, I discovered something else I had done wrong.  First I put everything in alpha order by variety. Then I organized everything by pricing codes.  Then I realized I had overlooked the quantity limitations on the "E" and "Z" varieties.  If I do get any cuttings, I/m sure Jon is going to tack on a nuisance fee.

Jon,
Godiva?  Dagoba? Solid chocolate?  Filled centers? Something else?

Rafed and Diesler,
Avoiding detection by the spouse can be improved if you:
1.  Carefully coordinate shipping with the provider of the fig stuff;
2.  Have stuff delivered to a neighbor; or
3.  Have your mail held at the Post Office if you know a LOT of stuff is coming in. ("Gee, Honey, looks like we didn't get any mail today.")
4.  Take a long drive to pick it up.
The best one was when I picked up a 7' tree from ejp3 last year, dragged it out of the car and onto the deck in the dead of night (into the midst of a LOT of other pots)  and convinced the spouse that one of mine had had a "growth spurt".  No, I don't feel guilty.  Well,... maybe a little.

Nothing beats See's. I see that they have finally made it to the east coast.

Jon, See's was always my mom's favorite too! She grew up with it in L.A. It really is good.

pitangadiego

Tim, I grew up in LA in a part of the city called Woodland Hills.  Years ago, See's wasn't sold nationwide, and people who moved from LA, or Calif. would have friends send it to them, and take it back when visiting, etc. It is still near impossible to beat.

Jon see's chocolates are the best. I was fortunate enough to get 4 boxes last year from my hawaiian cousins who bought them in San Diego and shipped them to us for Christmas man they are good. My little cousin's were circling the box like vultures and I was guarding it like a Pit-Bull.

OK, They are a little scuffed from being shipped overnight by FedEx. They arrived from a very nice forum member who was excited about getting her cuttings next week. This beats milk and cookies:no contest. And we haven't even talked about dark chocolate versus milk, nuts and chews versus soft centers, etc.

OttawanZ5

OK that is See's. It probably beats some of the dried figs (some).

Looking at the available list just 4 fun, I noticed that it lists "Chicago Hardy" as well as "Hardy Chicago" as separate verities even though the Variety description for "Chicago Hardy" refers back to "Hardy Chicago".
If they are the same, would it not perpetuate confusion or create more of it?

All paid orders have been shipped. If you do not receive your order by Saturday, it is either not paid as of last night, or I did not receive it.

Sue's Portuguese twigs are gone except  for Preta and some odd shaped or short pieces of Branca. Her Saratoga/Chico Strawberry is still available, along with quite a few other good selections.

Received my order today, nice fat healthy cuttings. All have already been scrubbed, bleached and set to root (my wife mistakingly though I was making dinner when she came in tonight.  Took her to dinner instead)

Between these and cuttings I procured from one other source (known to the forum members as a great ebayer) the cuttings I've gotten this year are by far some of the best I have seen in all the years i've been doing this.  More than just a couple were 1/2 inch or thicker and 2 were almost an inch in diameter.  I'm hoping by St. Patty's I'll be seeing the green (and white below the soil-line as well!!)

Chills,

That's great to here.
You and Al and I should meet this summer.

For what I've ordered and will order I think by August they will strap me with that outfit and I just can't think of the name but they use on the wackos when they throw them in the white cushioned room.

Just another basket case. LOL LOL

Got mine too!  It's Christmas in the Catskills!  Ran to Costco and got more plastic bins.  If all of these root, I'm in trouble.

Rafed, I'll bet you I'm a lot closer to the padded room than you are.  I didn't order much from Jon this year, but I've got a UC DAVIS order still to arrive and I'll bet that even without it you don't even come close.

At least I'll be able to share cuttings with you this summer.

Sure hope you fig nuts have family that will help you eat all those when they get ripe fruit. If not send to me  ; )
I would think that some animals in future years might start getting plump in fig land area's as well.  ; )

Last call for anyone wanting fig cuttings. I don't have a list, but there are some cuttings left, Panache, Celeste, Black Mission, Ventura, etc. most things are gone, but not quite everything. In a few days, adios till next year.

If you want some cuttings to practice rooting with, let me know.

Chills,

Maybe PaulandIrenes friend decides to come over I will invite you and Al as well. And even if he doesn't come theres no need to spoil the party.

We'll see who will earn the Bragging Rights. LOL

I have no problem trading with you.

I won some of the 'Cucumber' cuttings from Jon's Ebay listing the other day, and that's all I'm doing for this year. Every cotton pickin' one of the cuttings I received last month have rooted and are in cups and have an inch or so of new growth, and what I have obtained elsewhere is growing well, so the 'Cucumber' variety will satisfy me---for this year!

Thanks again Jon for making it possible for us to obtain such nice scion!

How to: (look near the bottom)

You'll have to check around for the "correct" person to send the order to via email.
