Saw fresh figs at my local costco! They were light green/yellow, and I was looking for markings to see what variety they were, and where they were from. I believe they were from California. An employee asked me if they had to be cooked first! |

The green ones, "sierra" are quite good, the dark types are more hit-or-miss. We get them at Meijer and at small fruit markets at this time of year and yes they are from California. |

I have seen mission figs in Tony's Fruit Market in chicago suburb around 5.00 for no more than 8 or so. Before retirement a co-worker brought a small round plastic container with them and i was surprised that they decent, kind of made me wonder if i should have gotten a mission fig plant. |

they were too ripe to sell them at 3 for a $1 as they currently sell them at this farmers market. so the guy sold me two boxes of them for $5. I love them when they're too ripe, some were mushy but very sweet. |

I guess that shows that I am pretending to be a fig loving person because I had a clam shell case full of eight or none mission like figs for $5.00 (actually $4.99) in my cart for a while but finally I put them back on the shelf because of the price and thinking that I will have my own two fat brebas within two weeks+. Now I feel like going back tomorrow and pick up those figs in the store to make sure I taste some figs this season because something else can get to the brebas on my plants and bad weather can keep the main crop from ripening before frost. Our Zone 5 in the North is not as warm in the summer as Zones 5 to the South. |
