This is my VDB can someone confirm that this is a sign of FMV. The tree was slow growing at first but has really taken off this past month or so It is now 3 ft tall and growing well. It even has some small figs on it so maybe I'll get to taste in a couple of months if the weather cooperates. Thanks for looking Sal |

Oh Sal I agree since you brought that up im gonna open a bottle of Madeira wine and enjoy. Its been 8 years now since I have been to Madeira its where I was born so I hope to go in two years time since my fiancee is due in march and hopefully the little one can see where his daddy came from. Sal if you ever get an opportunity to go to Porto Santo the neighbouring island also part of Madeira its really nice too and they have a fig tree there that is said to have been planted when the first portuguese settled there back in early 1400's. Now back to the topic, when I was googling FMV one one site it said not to propogate from infected plants wich is hard since allot of common varieties are infected. For instance the black madeira think they all have it, if that black madeira trully is from Madeira island Im sure there is some there with no FMV thats for the next time I go there I will be looking for any and all black figs I can find and take cuttings. |

Nelson i like the way you put it about FmV like Herpes. Yes very true and some folks frown upon a fig plant with FmV and of course thats there choice, but to have some good tasting figs you such as madeira, mission , ischia black and so forth generally FmV is in them, if a person has a lots of plants chances are they have it and well just may not realize it as it may not show in the spotting but in mishappen leaves. I did take some pics in an old post from last winter showing some spots that can be missed. Here is link |

Ciao Sal, you have very healthy happy trees, very good luck to you all. Since everyone has been talking of drinking some wine, well, I have just opened my bottle and having first glass of night as friends will come over soon for music and fun. I am drink Montelpulciano, I love this local wine to my hometown in IT. I am so happy for you nelson with A BABY coming, I just had my first this sommer, A big boy named Alessandro, don't know if you have heard me mention, he with my Brother and sister in law to be this evening as they always give me and hubby a night off, YOu take baby to your homeland so he/she can see where he is from, I was taking Alessandro to Italy to show rest of family, but panicked at last minute and didn't. I will take him when he is older though. Sal, your trees will be fine as Martin says, I love when you said size doesn't matter and referred to good old Cecil, who loves these kind of remarks but always keeps good words with us lady folk!!! Very good, I laughed at that Sal!!! Ciao!!!! |

Nelson; Wow my words couldn't say that and even the video can't express that trill. these people are nuts in a nice way. The day we were there a big soccer game was going Man U and Barcelona I think it was the semi's or finals not sure of either well U know how important real Football Is in Europe (GO G MEN) The Gauchos if that is correct the guys driving anyway were all in the cantina bar watching the game yelling arguing drinking drinking drinking yelling and smiling. I joined the merriment to build up my courage my wife kept on shaking her head NO NO NO until she got some courage but backing up we went up to the church right up above to pray also. I tried to pick the most sober guys as possible and we had a safe trip down not as fortunate as us was couple we met also from fl who crashed into a car on one of those cross roads They were OK though those things only have foot brakes Literally Nelson Thanks for that my wife will get a kick I must save this to Favorites the trip only goes half way down and we walked the rest As you probably assumed I like to talk and meet and I had a few UN Inhibitors in me I met many on nice folk on my way back to ship about 3Mi walk with a few pit stops along the way. Nelson Please correct me Is this one of the Islands the rich and famous go to party vacation from western Europe if not they don't know the beauty they are missing Sal |

Martin just so you know there are no wheals on that sled just wood on pavement and the slope of the mountain. This is not on a closed road no stop lights and they just go through the intersections pretty much at same speed when I said foot brakes I meant literally the guys use their feet to slowdown or make hair pin turns it was really a rush Back to figs: I wish I was into them then, I would have had clippers with me and of course I would get permission first if possible. If I ever have the good fortune to travel again clippers will be one item in back pack. I also know besides looking at the major attraction or sites I will also be on the look out for figs. Nelson we also saw some of the most beautiful gardens and all houses had beautiful blooming plants along with fruit and vegetables

Hi Sal yes 90% of the homes have beautiful gardens because almost anything will grow there the climate is sub tropical a good website with info and photos is http://www.madeiraarchipelago.com/ . Sal one thing im thinking is possibly going to a nursery in Funchal my grandfather has been there to buy cherimoya trees & they sell fig trees. Im sure theres a way of getting a certificate there to bring it to North America. |
