I am not sure if any of you use worms to eat your garbage and supply castings for fertilizer, but if you do [or have thought about it], over the weekend I designed a cheap, easily made tool for harvesting the castings...and I had all materials on hand at home: snack foods container, 1/4" mesh, and wire.

Don't forget to pick up any worm cocoons that drop through the screen, but looks good. Gary

That is the basic idea. I want a finer mesh and a much larger tumbler. Just have to find the right screen.

When screening compost, I find that 1/4" works fine. The particles are either much finer that the 1/4" or still much larger, so a smaller mesh is not needed.

I was going to make something similar out of a 5-gallon bucket but haven't gotten around to it yet.  Here's an example:

Wonder if a restaurant type deep fryer (potatoes) would work to convert easier into a tumbler. May find at a second hand restaurant store... they fry huge things in those things..also for noodle strainers for restaurants.  how about 2 of them back to back?
