It is part of the Petals from the Past at Jamison, AL. Located behind the nursery beside the Grape and Apple orchard. There are about 60-65 in ground trees/bushes. Most of those trees are 15-25 yrs old.

Trees are lined in rows, the first 3 rows are LSU Purple, 4th,5th Celeste and O'Rourke and.......

Next time I'll take more pics as the attached pics are only 1/3 of the total trees there.

Hope you enjoy them.

Noss,

Thank you. I think they have already removed those PVC hoop houses by now, since those pics were taken back in March and it was a little cold during some nights.

Navid,

Did you get close enough to see if the O'Rourke have three-lobed and five-lobed and only three-lobed and five-lobed leaves?

JD, Yes, the younger/new leaves on the O'Rourkes were five-lobed and the mature leaves were three-lobed.

Very impressive orchard.  I wonder if hoop houses might work well to protect in-ground fig trees up north.  They've become quite popular here for winter gardening and season extension.  They also look easy enough to build:

Thought about it for my area but this is something I found interesting to look into- Posted by Bass- Fig lover in PA and his passion for keeping his inground

Note,

The black tubs that you see in the hoop houses right above the pots, is the irrigation system. This is a new system since last year those 1/2 inch Poly. tubes were placed directly on the ground. It's a very clever design for few reasons.

Navid,

Thank you for the details.  I agree about container plants -- too risky to leave in such a structure without the efforts you mention.  I was thinking more about established in-ground trees like you see in nypd5229's link.  In any case, I need to figure out how to grow them that big before I worry so much about protecting them ;)

I didn't think those wing-looking thingies near the stem end were actually lobes.  Every time I think I understand something, I find I don't.  They are like spurs rather than lobes, or so I thought.

Last week I visited the PFTP to buy some Lemon trees, there I took some pics from their fig trees.
