What the heck is it???

It looks like some kind of evil Voodoo/Devil Doll.

I was checking on my patio garden earlier and out of the corner of my eye,
I saw it just hanging out sitting in one of my extra pots.

I haven't touched it yet.

I have a feeling I know who put it there.

There is an old Italian woman that has been giving me

The Mal Occhio  ( The Italian Evil Eye ) for months now.

I even think she even took a Fig and a peach from my garden before.

I have no idea why she would do such a thing...

Very funny.

But it's spooky.

The thing has NO FREAKING HEAD.

I am NOT touching it until I get some
Holy Water to douse it with first.

Hey old ghost,
looks like someone took the head off of a meditating Buddha,
and gave him a cross to  carry in place of his mala beads.

As a 100% Italian, if she gave you the evil eye, well you pissed her off for some reason. Did you share any figs or garden veggies with her? If not that I would say that's one of the reasons. I would get a Italian horn, (half man half horn ), A red piece of cloth and wrap a small piece of salt block in it. And start to share with her. This what my grand parents would say.

Fespo,

I. Didn't do anything to her.

I know her from the neighborhood for years.

Never had a problem with her.

At least not until I started growing figs on
My patio.

That's when she started being mean, saying
Things like : " Your Figs will never ripen ",
" It's unnatural to keep a fig tree in a pot "

I have tried to give her a figs or two but
she refuses, and gives me. " The Eye "

She's really old and alone, so I can't get too
upset at her.

But if she left that " Thing " in one of my pots

She's scarier than I thought.

I am first generation Italian.
I was born in Bari.

I learned a long time ago, don't mess
with really old Italian witchy looking women ...

What's that line from 'The Princess Bride?' I think it's "Never rile a Sicilian.'
 So, so true.

Nick, maybe the best thing to do would be to put a head on it and leave it right where it is!

That's why  I never dated any woman from Ozone Park/ Howard Beach. LOL.

I think I can solve all your problems... Just donate all your figs to me and I will lift the curse for free. My Gift to you!

AnnieBee,

I am NOT putting a head on that headless thing.

No thank you.

I swear I can feel it"s Beady headless eyes looking at me...

I threw a old t-shirt over it, but it STILL LOOKS LIKE A HEADLESS THING...

All I need to do know is figure out a way to get it out of my patio,

And all I need is my mom to walk downstairs and see one of my old t-shirts
hanging over a pot and lift it up.

You have no idea how superstitious a 75 year old Italian woman can be.

Nick sounds like the woman may have had something happen to her as she aged , she may not be right in her head and i mean that politely and with respect for the elders as i see them at a home each Sunday from all walks of life and the things they sometimes do and say to any one that passes by its really sad.
If it were me i would take it and simply toss in garbage and not worry about the person who placed it there.
When you pass each other look the other way Nick and dont worry.

I think the crocheted cross is a dead giveaway. What is the other thing in its lap Nick?

I would go to the fish market and buy a fish and wrap it in a newspaper and place it at her front door step.

Leave her a note saying B%&ch, you feel froggy then leap.
Your hokus pokus just ain't doing it.

Edit: Hope everyone knows I am joking. Would never speak to an old lady like this.

Alan,

I think this is the same lady that thinks Mickey Mouse is the President and Elmer Fudd is the Vice President.

Tell her Va fan culo catso ya figa while scratching the bottom of your chin and see what happens.
I say take that thing to an art studio and sell it on consignment

Make a donation to the Wat Umong forest Monestary in Northern Thailand's beheaded budda collection and then take a tax deduction for the donation.

Alan,

I agree with you about mid evil times with the burning stoning or beheading, etc. etc.

My question to you and everyone one else is what is an old Italian lady doing with a statue of a Buddha?

Nick,
All jokes aside, I would take the statue to the nearest church and show it to the priest and tell him who you suspect of doing this. Make sure you make a donation to the church first. Then offer the priest a bottle of cognac.

I cant prove she did it.

but I know she did.

Every time I have seen her walk by she gives me " The Look "
And every now and then she will say giggling : " Has anyone taken anything yet ? "
Usually the day before something goes " missing '
( The patio abuts the sidewalk and until I put netting up anyone could just reach
in a take something over the low fence )

Maybe she " took " the statute from someone else's yard removed the head,
added her cute little knitted cross and stuck it in my pot ( after putting a old world
curse on it I assume. )

Maybe, just maybe, she has been responsible for all the weird looking - but really tasty - figs I have been growing lately?

Really bizarre looking figs as most of the member here are aware of.

I am starting to wonder now..

P.S. I told my local priest about the statute and the woman, he smiled and said
to bring it into the church tomorrow and he will see " what I can do "

Not to freak out the members here more than I possibly have, but hoosierbanana mentioned that there was something else in it's lap other than a cross.

Not wanting to lift up the t-shirt and take a peek, I took a closr look at my pics and guess what I discovered?

In its lap is a weird face looking creature ( not certain it it's s person or goat or what ) handmade out of cloth.

Is that face-thing supposed to be me?

The hair on the back of my neck is standing up as I write this.....

Here Nick is figurine of Buddha i think someone gave to us or something. If it were me i would just toss it in the garbage, by the damage on it does not look recent and person most likely found it in alley or someones garbage and is someone looking for attention like i mention in my other post .

It's like a teddy bear head or something? Martin's advice is spot on Nick. Just ignore her and she will move on to bother someone else for something else.

That looks pretty cool. I would clean it up and paint it, next time you see your neighbour tell her thank you and see how she reacts.

Nick
Throw the budda away and take the hand made cross put it on your dresser and when you see it say a prayer for that poor mixed up old lady.

Well, I asked my wifes Sicilian uncle about this he confirmed that this is most likely the evil eye. He told me that his mother knows the prayer to take off the evil eye, but she can only tell us on christmas eve, so it might be 3 months to a year or so until I can help you depending on the rules. Just be careful until then.

You guys and all this voodoo magic crack me up!

Just draw an upside down pentagram with a circle around it on the sidewalk in front of her house and throw a a goats head in the middle of it. No muss, No fuss!

Got rid of several ex's that way. Works like a charm. LOL

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?  The woman you mention comes from a different generation, a different culture than most and has a stigma already attached simply based on her ethnicity.  I would not waste my worry or energy on the statue and its attachments.

It is a green cross, it could mean something for intended for good growing...who knows.   Personally, I would take some figs to the woman and then ask her assistance--show her what was left and ask her what she thinks it is, tell her you value her wisdom, etc.

Could be a good luck charm.....maybe someone thought you needed a pot decoration?   I do like the paperbag effect also...you could create clothes for each season/holiday.

Just to be clear, I am NOT pointing a finger and saying that the Old Witchy Italian
woman that has been making strange comments about the unnatural growing habits of my figs in containers is responsible for all the weird freaky figs I have been growing.

Or that she was kind enough to leave me a " Gift "  ( A really, really, freaky nightmare inducing gift )

I am just doing the math....

                                                           +

Any questions?

serious about it being nightmare inducing?

I don't mean to be a little baby.

I'm 6 foot two and 225 Lbs.

But there are some things that really freak me out.

That " Gift " and the very weird figs I am getting, plus the " look " I am on the
receiving end of from that old Italian woman has me un-hinged.

I mean just look at this thing, with it's headless head and just image picturing it in your mind late at night with the lights off....
