Hey Pete, nice tree. It looks a lot like one of the two I started three seasons ago. They have been slow growers for me, but I got one almost ripe fig from them last season. Though not perfect, I could taste the potential. This season, despite still growing slowly, they both have plenty of figs. The tree that resembles yours is all of 18"-20" tall and has maybe seven fruits, while the other is maybe 14" tall and has three branches all sprouting from the same point on the trunk (no central leader). Each branch is full of a cluster of figs, at least 20 total. I am certain I'm tradling growth potential from the trees for figs this season, but I've got a lot of trees and if it takes an extra two years or so for the trees to reach a relatively high productivity, I can wait. I want the figs now! |

[QUOTE]
I was able to get a few cuttings, but the tree is too far from here to consider setting up an air-layer. Not to mention, ...I've never done one before. :) I'd be thrilled to end up with a rooted cutting as nice as Pete's. |

this is one of two CdDB i have from UCD cutting, i lost 1 cutting which had terminal bud. come to think of it, i should have put that into 1 gal also and it might have made it like Black Madeira. they both show slight FMV on the leaves, but not as bad as Calvert or Ischia Green. funny thing is even with heavy sign of FMV on the leaves, Calvert is growing really well, and putting on the figs. Ischia Green are runts. heavy FMV and slow growth. |
