I recently took off this second airlayer from my Maltese Falcon.
First is reserved for a good fig friend , but maybe I should offer this one on ebay ?
Not sure what it might bring.
This was started somewhat late in the season , so it was nice to see the great roots that formed. M Falcon is a strong grower.

Stupid to ask this.... What traits make this so wanted?

Mine is only 2 years old and I haven't had fruit yet.
The person who introduced it to the US has found it to be a large high quality dark fig that ripens well in the north.
From a forum member who has fruited it and many other varieties in the north and who is not prone to exageration , it was given on a scale of 1-10 a score of 20.
It is a good question Chris.
Perhaps others who have tasted it will chime in.
Mine did set fruit but it was knocked off when a storm blew another fig plant into the M. Falcon.

I think you should try to sell it on Ebay!

Bro you need to understand that every fig have FMV only on some variety is more  visible especially if living in colder climates. Not need to be worried there is no cure for FMV we all have to live with it.

figs4me , yes it has FMV, but I've never gotten any fig plant that doesn't show some evidence of it in all of my 50 varieties .
To me it has never shown itself to effect the growth so much that I even think much about it now, even though when I started out 3 years ago I was concerned.
If you continue to worry about the Ronde de Bordeaux I sold you , I will be happy to refund your money if you send it back to me and I'll pay the shipping.
I believe you will be as happy with it as I am with mine if you keep it ,but if you are trying to have a FMV free collection , please feel free to send it back for a full refund. Don't want the RDB to be a worry for you.
I ate a few more that ripened today and even in our cool weather the taste is always fantastic. I'm guessing the M. Falcon will turn out to be even better.

I got the pot when I bought a couple of plants from Gene Hosey a few years ago.
I think this is the supplier ,

I skipped over that post on purpose but Alas, another FMV debate we have.  Seems to happen once a week.  Some one should start a FMV post called: "THE FMV POST TO END ALL FMV POSTS".  Jon could then pin it to the top of the list.  It's probably the most debated topic here on this forum, but like most of them, has nothing to do with the start of the thread.   

figs4me, I can assure you that, there is no reason to worry about FMV. Your RdB will grow just fine with proper care. Last season I purchased two RdB plants from Kerry and another one from a different source, all three were infected with FMV. They all grew vigorously, and this season one of Kerry's RdB produced well over four dozens of figs for me. I would keep it.

Kerry, maybe this time you should put it on ebay. I have two extra MF, a CddN and .... that been thinking to put on ebay.

The RdB I got from Kerry is very happy and green!  I don't notice FMV.  It seems to love the heat here with the balmy nights.  It's in partial sun, under the grapefruit tree.  FMV never worries me.  It's inevitable, but some climates don't handle it as well, so suit yourself!

As for Maltese Falcon.  It's on my wish list and I'm up for cuttings, but I won't be in a bidding war on Ebay!  I'm willing to "Buy Now" for a set price, but no bidding for this chick!

Just to clarify ,the offer I made for paying shipping was for returning it now or when dormant, as I know the size and shipping cost of the plant I sent you.
I can't offer to pay shipping for the size of plant I expect it to be after a year of growth as it is a very fast grower.

Kerry, I got one of your RdB's this summer and yes it shows FMV. It is also 6 feet tall and very happy. If I repotted it it would be huge by next summer.
 figs4me -  most of the folks I respect in the fig community believe every single fig in the world has FMV even if they don't show it. I have 14 plants of 9 varieties in 15 gallon pots (and I've had these plants since 07 or 08) that have never shown any hint at all of FMV but I would never try and sell them or their cuttings, air layers, etc. as FMV free.
I also have another 100+ plants that do show signs of FMV and that includes plants grown in a lab that claim to be less prone to FMV. It's just a fact of life. I hate it and years ago made the wild claim that I would only collect figs without FMV. I went through a ton of plants and money before I finally accepted that if I wanted to collect the rarer varieties like RdB or MF or the CdD's I'd have to accept that FMV is a part of life. Yes, I did get 14 plants that seem FMV free but to do so I paid a huge price and these plants could show signs of FMV any day. I tell you this not as someone who knows more then any one else but as someone who was very stubborn and learned the hard way. Some stuff we just have to accept and look past if we want to collect living things. Sometime in the future a nursery with a serious lab and a bunch of money will start selling FMV free plants as there is a way to get there from here (I'm told) but today you just can not expect folks to send out plants without FMV. It's a bummer, but a fact of life. Just give your fig some time. As it gets older it will probably be less affected by FMV and show fewer signs that it's stressed.

People need to ask in advance of buying, or accepting a gift of a fig tree, so they'll know if it does, or does not show evidence of FMV.  If they're looking for FMV-free trees, then they can refuse the tree.

Sellers/givers need to let people know about FMV before they sell/give trees to anyone so they'll know and can refuse a tree if they're looking for FMV-free trees.

I have a Sicilian Black that is showing a lot of FMV and it also put on some leaves that don't show andy signs of it at all.  It has grown well and put on some delicious figs this season.  I have trees with FMV near trees that don't show any signs of it.  I disinfect pruning shears between all my trees whether they show FMV, or not.  It doesn't hurt to be careful with cutting tools.
