This morning I noticed that I mistakenly put a cutting in the cup upside down. The cup is full of roots but the one bud that's beginning to swell and grow is clearly headed in the wrong direction! What to do? Will nature simply correct this and turn the stem and buds around to grow upwards or will I be picking figs out of the grass!

Oh man,,Your figs are going to grow inside out!
Just kidding.

I think you will be fine.

Just a suggestion, but maybe seal the top and cut out the bottom and flip the container over? But most plants that grow "up and down" have a sense of what's up and what's down - gravitaxis.

I did that on one of mine and it has done fine. The shoot will curve upwards towards sunlight. No worries.

I would flip it and plant it right side up.

I'm with Bob!  A little plastic lid taped to the top with drainage holes in it and then flipped would set the world straight!  No more worries!

Flip it. If not , a fig tree will show up growing in China in about 1000 years from now.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. Let us know how it works.

Rafed, that was funny.

It may turn out to be an awesome tree, cuttings that are upside down seem to make stronger roots.

I did the same thing on one of mine. It had great roots but upside down :(. Planted horizontal now also hoping for a shoot to start.

Similar story with me here.  Upside cutting that I "horizontalized".  Now there are two stems coming out of the middle, with roots at either end!  Don't know if it will make it, but hope so!
