Looks like coastal NC will remain (mostly) in the 40s at night, after this weekend. Time to bring the trees out of the garage. Good thing, too, as many of them are leafing out. SPRING!!!!!!! |

This is the time of the year when we all say we are tired of winter. Signs of spring are welcome. My snow drops are all budded and some narcissis is poking up. I even heard a robin the other day. |

Yes, same here, sunday may be the day to uncover my Hardy Chicago; then again, it's hard to believe the forecast when we are in midst of a snowstorm. 58 on Sunday? Bring it on! |

Yesterday I moved three of my 1 gallon pot dormant figs that I had in the unheated garage indoors. I figured why not let them come out of dormancy indoors for 2-3 weeks in front of a south window before the fig shuffle begins. |

We've got robins hopping around all over the place here. And once the figs are outside, they will stay there. I've got a southfacing slab of concrete and a tarp for those few remaining chilly nights. Besides, I have zero room inside with the new plants and the ones that are still rooting. I'll just be glad to be rid of the fungus gnats. |

I going to take out the layer of 'stuffing' insulation out today and then leave the wrap insulation for another couple weeks probably here but half to end march all my trees will be un covered. |

usually, first month or so after they come out of garage, my trees spend the days on my south facing wall. they do rather well there. once the day time temp goes over 85, they go to the back deck where it's little cooler during the day. i'm so looking forward to this year. few choice new figs to taste for the first time, and to evaluate old ones to see if they are keep improving. |

8 and a 1/2 inches of snow fell fig shuffle will have to wait for now but temps are suppose to warm. |

I lied, I uncovered all my in ground trees today, Colisanti Dark, Dalmatie, Celeste and VdB. All are alive with the only ones showing more than an inch of damage being VdB and Celeste. The VdB has a sevre case of FMV and the healthy branches are in good shape, just not more than 2 of them to start with. |

Beautiful day outside in CT today. We brought all 100+ trees outside and gave them a nice drink and let them spend the day in the sun. A few buds are getting green and swelling. We'll bring them back in the garage shortly. |

How many times will you bring those 100+ trees in and out? |

I'll probably bring them in and out a few more times at most but I have a few helpers whom work for ice cream and that makes the work easy. Most are in 3 gallon pots now but this year I'm moving half of them to SWC's. While I expect many to come out of dormancy unscathed I will wait to see. I am moving in June so a goal is to migrate 1 of each variety to a SWC and shed any of the extra figs I have by June. |

Right on schedule. Nighttime temps are projected to be in the 40s and 50s from this point forward. While I am sure we'll get one or two nights that go lower, the pots are coming out to stay. Afterall, that is what tarps are for. All the leaves are popping; and they need sunlight. I'm putting out the figs, pomegranates, mulberries, horseradish and hops. We're looking for a house. Hopefully, they'll be inground by summer. |

It's been so long since some of you have seen plants actually growing in the ground, it's difficult to tell if they are right side up. ;) ;) |

Hi Mark. I love your pictures but I thought that only your figs grow upside down LoL. Can you turn them right way please. |
