After a long waiting period, they finally made it through!
I am so excited to start 3 original strains of figs from Cyprus in Los Angeles.
1- Purple
1-Green
1-Green with pinkish-purple stripes

Can't wait to show the flowers in future.

-Gary, they are really tasty figs, Cyprus is famous for their indigenous Fig varieties...(well, so it's been told for centuries anyways).

-Joe, I could but I won't get cuttings from either one of 'em yet, I need them to grow strong . Short trunk and bushy canopy...I am already seeing (you could too) several buds on each one of 'em. So, there is hope :)

I hope I also get more info from Costas (from London) who just returned from Cyprus with lots of notes and pictures of Cyprus varieties.

Cyprus is a short boat ride from Lebanon and Turkey, it's in a perfect location for figs. I found a Cypriot fig in NJ with green and purplish blush, I hope the cutting makes it through.

@Bass, by any chance did you get the name of that variety? I am looking for the name of that one , if it's same, b/c that's the one we had in our backyard when I was growing up in Cyprus...Maybe the owners know?

maybe it's the variety... otherwise what I always use...MG Potting -Mix but I want to find out if Pro-Mix is a better product .

The MG with moisture control stays too wet, in my experience, for things such as young fig trees and cuttings.  It requires much more careful watering.  More porous mixes will allow excess water to drain.  The water-retaining crystals used in this mix will retain that water and assure a very wet soil.

Thanks Harvey, when I am rooting the cuttings, with this top covered method that I have been talking about,Easy Rooting!, I water just once (the initial watering) and don't water until I lift the top cover containers off. Then I am very careful not to let the soil dry on me because all the roots , at that time, are between the soil and container wall. And remember, I root them in sunny outdoors with a little shade over their heads.
Maybe after I up-pot them into 1 gallon then I should use more porous mixture...?

Am I being too redundant or is this "growth speed" really unusual to see? I'm not used to seeing such a growth rate.

Francisco, It's how I have been successfully rooting my last 46 varieties of cuttings, with this method!Easy Rooting!
There's nothing to it, I think it's the moisture, heat and Sunlight combined with the Potting soil that's just ideal for LA situation, not sure if it will be as productive in other states but it is worth trying.
