Arenas 973 Every evidence this is a Celeste. Quite healthy, 5-6 blocks from the beach.

Wilbur 918 Ripe on July 1st, main crop, 4 blocks from the beach. Sweet, light flavor.

Neale 8461 Negronne type fig. Very old tree, maybe 10" in diameter.

Given the landscape setting for most of these (can't tell from some photos such as for caprifig), it seems likely that these were trees bought in a nursery and not seedling trees.  Are you going to attempt to identify the true identity?

Jon, I presume the two 5283 figs were on the same property. Both of them winners, huh? NICE! Have you met the owner? I hope you can get some background info on those two.

Harvey, I have seen Thirty Second 6263 elsewhere, but it was an unknown at that location, as well. If we can figure out what they are, so much the better, but currently just hunting for good fruits. Obviously, kissing a few toads along the way, as well.

Ruuting, yes both on same property, and both loaded with main crop figs, but not near ripe, yet.

Part of this project is to find varieties that do well in cooler locations. This hunt led Sue to find Figo Preto and some others. It also led us to Narragansett 5334. So there is good potential for useful finds.

Some neighborhoods just have all the luck, as does their inhabitants!  Lucky you, Jon.

Did you ever get access to Narragansett 4277 (a dark fig with red pulp)? I know the owner was not share-friendly a couple of years ago (I asked). I am wondering if either you or Sue may have asked since then.

JD, is that the tree in the next block down the hill from Phil's? If so Jon was told they didn't want to share cuttings too. I'm pretty sure it's a Mission.

No cuttings. Did find a fruit on the ground in the alley, and it looked to be a Black Mission.

Jon, what was your take on Wilbur 198 fig? Looks like a really nice variety and very healthy leaves too... did you taste any?

Were do you fing all these trees? I need,to go to the frech quarter. I heard new Orleans has fig planted all over.

You have to do a lot of driving. Check the older sections of town. Some are in front yards, and some in backyards (often can be seen from an alley). It isn't magic - it is time consuming.

I found my first fig tree at a persons house we were buying needle point kit from. I said,what you got there. He said that the,tree has,been in his family for 90 years. Long story short. He says it came from Lafayette. It was a huge tree in a big field with other friut trees makes yellow figs big as a golf ball. He gave me a whole branch.

Overhere some high quality figs have been found like Enrico, Vincenzo, Nardi Blk and Barbillone. Best tasting is Enrico. A couple of
fig lovers told me recently where a few no name trees are located. I may check them out in late summer.

There are some very nice what I presume to be Black Missions over at the San Diego Zoo. I reached over the fence (while a co-worker held my belt) to grab a few when I was out there visiting a few years back.

Can still taste the Black Maderia Jon shared with me on that trip, superb fig, awesome guy.

Love the hunt, I found many in the San Diego area and still want to do more. Many owners were not friendly but sometimes are so nice and invited me in to look and discuss about it. Even heaps of cuttings occasionally. There are three owners told me to come back for tasting later in the year. I love the culture!

My brother get a big fig tree and it bears big main crop yearly, I got some cuttings in plastic cup 1 month,  Anyone know its name?

The cutting I got from Santee, Calif. has rooted and has got several leaves.
It is an unknown green fig.  Hoping it will survive potting up. Wish me luck!
